Hi,
I am from Toronto and rented a car from Hertz in Las Vegas. I drive to San Francisco and got a Parking ticket over there in Chinatown, for parking at a spot which was menat for commercial loading. It is a $70 ticket. I want to ask all experts out there that should i pay this ticket or not. Secondly how easy it is for them to track me down as the car which i rented was with Arizona plate and i got a ticket in San Francisco. Kindly suggest that should i pay or not.
Thanks,
Ashish

I'd guess they'd track it down pretty easily. Hertz may well ding you a service charge for the ticket, as well.
Now, if it was an Arizona plate in Toronto.... ;)

Why would you NOT pay it? While I know from experience that San Francisco parking is very difficult to find, I assume that the "commercial loading zone only" location that you parked in was clearly marked, but you chose to park there anyway?
I think in many cases the rental car company will be traced and end up with the ticket, if you don't pay. They will then charge your credit card to cover the fine. So you pay now, or later.
Definately pay the ticket. The $70 is far less than what you'll pay once the city of SF bills gets your name and address from Hertz and sends you a bill.
I received a parking ticket in Quebec on a Hertz rental cars from New York on a California drivers license. Even though I paid the ticket immediately, I still got a bill for 30% more about 3 months after the ticket -- I had to prove that it had already been paid.
I've also received speeding tickets from speed cameras in Switzerland, on a car rented in the Netherlands, on a Vermont drivers license.
Bottom line, pay the ticket without delay.

I have had this happen before, they will see the date of the ticket and see that you were the person who rented the car on that day, they will mail you a bill.
This happend to be on a red light camera.

Of course you should. Or are you suggesting that if you can get away with it, it's okay to violate the law?
You can pay it online using a credit card.
In general, street parking in downtown is hard, although not impossible to find. Many spaces have been converted to commercial loading recently. If you're parking for >1 hr, park at one of the garages, it's cheaper.

Plus late-fee as well as hefty "administrative" fee from Hertz, probably.
Mind you, if you choose to ignore the ticket, the city parking authority can simply go after Hertz as the registered owner of the car, leaving Hertz to deal with you. I doubt Hertz will have any problem figuring out whom to bill the ticket+fee+whatever.
I would pay up ASAP.

Agreed... I got a ticket in Gettysburg (didn't even see the sign.. too busy staring hungrily at the restaurant as I parked! :D Musta walked 10 miles on the battlefield that day...)
...found out where to go and went in THAT day and paid it... to avoid all the possible extra charges of having it handled through the rental company... AND because I felt guilty!! (How straight laced am I?)
A different sort of tourist experience... the clerk couldn't have been more pleasant... (Hey - let's look on the bright side!)
After all it was about 8 bucks!:D

You're kidding, right? You've never gone above the speed limit? Jaywalked, not come to a complete stop at a stoplight or stop sign. Puh-leaze!
Well, that's how government officials usually do it, isn't it? ;)

How about this:
Pay the ticket, don't try to screw over Hertz and, if you plan on coming back to the U.S., observe our laws.
I can't believe this. Is this what you do when you travel internationally?

Hertz is now using www.rentalcarticket.com to collect on parking tickets. I had one in NYC I did not pay. A charge will show up on your card on file with Hertz for the cost of the ticket plus an administrative fee which varies depending on the amount of time it takes to research your rental. The admin fee alone on my ticket was $150. rentalcarticket.com states you agree to this fee in the service agreement with Hertz. The charge shows up on your credit card statement from rentalcarticket.com.
