What would happen if during a 2 week stay you hit platinum on day 10, would you get something for the remaining 4 days?

I'm pretty sure the day count wouldn't get posted to your SPG account until you check out.

No.
One does not get a stay (or nights) recorded until the stay is ended and the stay information is transmitted to Starwood Preferred Guest.
You might be able to sweet-talk something, but I would not count on it.

No, not officially, because you won't be Platinum until that stay posts to your account after your stay (plus a few days for the system to upgrade you).
However, you might mention it to the front desk manager when you arrive. It's always possible that they'll be nice and upgrade you, or do something special, given that you're staying at the property for two weeks.

You should call up the SPG Gold number and explain the situation and ask them to comp you to Plat on the basis of your confirmed booking.

When I checked into the Westin for my last qualifying stay for Platinum, I talked to the SPG guest coordinator and I was immediately upgraded to one of their "Presidential Suites."
Very nice on their part. They really know how to treat SPG members - oh, did I mention the complimentary champagne and chocolate strawberries delivered later? I think SPG is the best........

This recently happened to me at the Sheraton Seattle. I happened to mention it to the front desk upon check in, only because I was replying to a question about my Gold status and mentioned that in one night I would have enough nights for Platinum. The hotel kindly upgraded my status, gave me lounge access, etc. It saved me some money and was generous of them to do.
