Hilton HHonors - Newbie Query - Acquiring VIP status with Amex

Just joined hilton honors after receiving a amex HHonors credit card. would like to know how i can get to gold/diamond vip status. I am a starwood gold after spending over $30k/year. I do not go on business trips and usually accumulate points via spending on amex card. Is there any way to acquire these vip status just by hitting the spending limits on amex?

I tried to search for this but everyone here is stating about certain number of stays which is not possible in my case.

linsj is correct. I should have said $20K. $20 would be too easy. Even though $20K is almost just as easy.
