Dear yosithezet,
Are you referring to the accomodation vouchers? I would advise that if they are non-complimentary Starwood Privilege vouchers, they should be eligible for stay credit.
However, knowing that its better to get a confirmed answer, I would encourage you to contact Customer Care to double check again.

I'm talking about the vouchers such as the one detailed below from the initial post on this thread..
When you say Customer Care are you talking about, for instance, calling up the Plat Concierge line or is there some other group I should call to ask?

The example you have given should be eligible. And you can call up Platinum Concierge to enquire regarding such information. I am very sure they would be able to help you.
For example, my colleagues in Customer Care Department(Singapore, no PC here) are able to help me with your enquiries.

Starwood Privilege Thailand
Does this mean that I have to be a resident of Thailand to get the Thai Starwood Privilege card?
Also, were the rates offered here https://www.starwoodhotels.com/promotions/promo_landing.html?category=GENDRE_R better than the Starwood Privilege accommodation rates? I went through the Starwood Privilege accommodation booking and although most offer free breakfast in the room rate, it doesn't reflect so when clicking on room discription/amenities in the next step!
Any thoughts? What was your preference?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

yosithezet, some questions regarding the Starwood Privilege. Did you have the Thailand Starwood Privilege card?
I do have a Thailand SP card.
Does this mean that I have to be a resident of Thailand to get the Thai Starwood Privilege card?
That is what it means.
Also, were the rates offered here https://www.starwoodhotels.com/promotions/promo_landing.html?category=GENDRE_R better than the Starwood Privilege accommodation rates?
They were not better than the voucher rates. The voucher rates included all taxes so even if the ZxR/ZxH rates were better, you have to add in the taxes and the inflexible, prepaid nature of those rates.
I went through the Starwood Privilege accommodation booking and although most offer free breakfast in the room rate, it doesn't reflect so when clicking on room discription/amenities in the next step!
The voucher rates are typically cheaper than the rates you are getting with the vouchers. The difference is that I could only up to 4 consecutive nights with the voucher at an individual property. So at the LM KL I used the voucher for 4 nights and then a Z3R for 3 nights. The Z3R was cheaper than booking the rate on the SP booking site.
I did a lot of comparisons and rebooking in the months leading up to the trip. I even screwed up royally as I had booked the Z3R after the cancellation dates for some C&Ps had passed. I was lucky in that my earlier emails with the Asst. Manager made my intentions clear and they were willing to waive the cancellation restrictions.
The above prices take into account the average price per night with taxes. The only time that the voucher wasn't the best rate was Z3x at LeM CM. However, in the end I only needed 2 nights so I didn't use it in the end. As for breakfast, because of the SPG Plat status, my wife and I received breakfast. That just left the kids and that was included for us in each property other than the LeM CM which is documented above.

I am also a Starwood Privilege member. These programs are offered in various parts of the world but I like the Thai one best. The is THB7900 and they will sell it to anyone.
On top of the Dining and Accommodation discount benefits, you receive about 30 vouchers. This year it is THB2000 free dining vouchers at each Thai Starwood property. If you visit Thailand regularly, this pays for the card, alone as you get 8000bt of fod in Bangkok, plus another 20000bt around Thailand.
There are fixed rate vouchers at most Thai hotels which are good value in high season and a bunch of other discount spa and party vouchers.
The last voucher is 1 free night at a partiipating (most) Thai property. This clearly says that you must show your Thai residency status or ID card but I have received this benefit from the Westin BKK and Sheraton Pattaya and I am not a resident. In the worst case, the Privilege office is in the Westin and they will always honour the voucher. If not, call Jenny.
Hope that helps.

I did a search and read several pages but I am still not clear on the voucher for a free one nights stay. Does this count towards status? I am guessing the answer is no after reading the non-complimentary distinction above although I see maybe there is some confusion since a confirmed answer is suggested. Does anyone have a confirmed answer?

In my experience a complimentary voucher does not count for stay credit etc but a discounted rate voucher does.

It isn't a Free Night being given by Starwood or SPG so perhaps it would count similar to how the SPG Flights gives you EQMs although for you it was 'free'. I'm doubtful of this being the case, however. I haven't used mine yet but if I use it for a solitary night then I'll report back.

Thanks for the quick reply. When I joined I was asked if I lived in Thailand and I replied that I had a residence in Thailand and in Canada and I travel back and forth between the two. I was told that was good enough. When reading about the program I noticed someone was asked for a work permit when they tried to use the voucher. I do not work in Thailand so I have no work permit. I usually don't even bother with a visa since I am in and out of Thailand so often. Am I likely to have a problem trying to use this voucher?

I have never had a problem but I check in with my wife who is a Thai national so......I have never been questioned. I would push back on anyone asking fora work permit. You do not need a Thai work permit to get this card. If you have the card then the hotel should not question beyond that in my opinion.

Ahhh, ROS. Well, I have never stayed at the ROS but have used my vouchers there (for dinging) and let me tell you they will try to find a way to make a 2000baht voucher worth about 500baht if they can. So, it would not surprise me if someone had that experience there.

I'm SPG Platinum and Thailand Starwood Privilege member. On 30Aug, I used a free weekend night at SGS. I received 500 point platinum amenity and grande suite upgrade but no stay credit. On 31 Aug, I used a Starwood Privilege free night voucher at Sheraton Pattaya. I'm a very regular guest but there was no issue using the voucher as a foreign national on visitor visa. I got the Deluxe Pavilion upgrade but no status or points, as expected. I did check the 500 point platinum amenity there too, but I expected that anyway as there were 7 paid nights, as well.

Hi,
I'm a long time lurker, first time poster, so be easy on me.
I'm planing to use fixed rate voucher at Le Meridien Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai, but I also want these to be elegible stays to qualify for SPG MasterCard free weekend promotion.
I made some calls directly to both hotels.
LM CM firmly denied stay eligibility if using voucher.
LM CR seemed to be confused at first, but finally said that it would NOT be eligible.
Reading other people comment regarding eligible stay make me uncertain of the situation.
It seems to me that if booking was made by calling Starwood reservation and mention rate code SPVOC1 as stated on the back of voucher, it should be eligible.
Any suggestion?
Thx,
yosithezet

I have an email from January '09 from the woman that used to run Starwood Privilege in Bangkok stating explicitly that the fixed rate voucher would count for stay and night credit.
Are the various fixed-price vouchers eligible for earning SPG points and stays? In order words, if I use the 'fixed rate coupon for 3 nights in the Le Meridien Chang Mai for 3500 THB will I SPG points for the money spent and an SPG stay and 3 SPG nights towards elite qualification?
About our fix rate voucher you will receive for the SPG point as a night
that you stay and only one stay for SPG

How do I sign up for the Thailand Starwood Privilege Card? Is there a specific Thailand website? Link please. The generic link (http://privilege.starwoodhotels.com/) does not mention anything about the THB7900 fee. And if I click on "Join Now" and fill out the form, how do they know which country I'm interested in?

I am a multi-year SP Thailand member and usually enjoy the offered benefits, especially when compared with a membership bought elsewhere.
This year, due to low occupancy, I have encountered occasions where I could not use meal vouchers as restaurants were closed. For example, during a four night stay in Phuket, we were turned away the first night, went off-property the second, and turned away again the next 2 nights. Every night (3 out of 4) we tried to take advantage of the meal at Birds of Paradise, the restaurant was closed. I feel that I have been disallowed use of benefits promised. It's not a big deal, but a contract is a contract.
My email of complaint has not rendered a response.
Any opinions?
Thanks in advance.

I don't think you were missing anything...
We drove from the Le M to Laguna (in the rain) to use our Birds of Paradise voucher and the buffet they had that night was not good at all. There was no ala carte option either.
Nowhere near the quality of any other of the voucher resturants.

I just received my 2010 pack.
Previously Thai hotels offered a 2000 baht voucher for a meal at each hotel.
In 2010 you receive 2 x 1000bt vouchers, which at first thought, sounds much more flexible, until I read that each voucher must be used by a minimum of 2 people.
1000bt nett (as the Thais put it) is actually 850bt of menu pricing plus the 17.7% which means 2 people have to eat for 850bt. While this is possible and you may be able to get 2 courses at some properties, some are limited to certain restaurants (the buffet restaurant) and I have not seen a Starwood buffet for only 425bt. - usually 700-1000bt.
My issue here is that the voucher says, "Complimentary Lunch or Dinner Meal for Minimum of 2 persons, at..... and you can't get a complimentary meal, just a discount of 1000bt off the bill.
This isn't terrible, but as I've said elsewhere, most Starwood restaurants are average, at best, and I doubt I would pay 700 or more baht just so my partner can eat free. I think this is kind of rude, as the benefits don't seem greater than those offered by the card, itself.

According to the information I have received, it is no longer participating in the program since two years ago.
Let me confirm again.

If you can't find a date in Thailand....well, that's just sad.

My Privilege expired in October and I requested membership info from the Privilege website AND e-mailed Ms. Jenny regarding renewal. So far, it has been over a week with no reply.
I need to have the kits mailed to me in the USA as my "Thailand address" is changing ;)
Does anyone have a direct e-mail or some advice on how to expedite this. I need to get my membership materials by mid Feb.

The person you emailed is no longer working there. I'll PM you the contact details of the person that is currently running the program.

Ms. Jenny has left the Thailand office couple of months ago. This may explain why you did not receive any response.
How about you drop me a PM with your full name and email details and I will forward it to my colleagues in the regional Starwood Privilege department for follow up?

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but why the need for PM secrecy? I was going to post Desmond's email until I saw that the last 2 posts wanted PMs.
Although SP Thailand is not a Starwood company, I can't see the harm in posting contact details.

Sorry William, but your sarcastic response is both unwarranted and surprising since every one of your posts has your email address in it.

Richard's analysis seems very accurate, except that I disagree with the ultimate conclusion. We ended up ordering 3 different dishes and stuffing ourselves to get up to 1000 Baht. So we're getting twice as much as if we had a single 2000-baht voucher. Also, if you do want something expensive like a steak or the 7xx Baht buffet at the SGS, then at least you do get 50% off the part of your food bill that exceeds 1000 baht.
I agree that the restaurant food is fairly mediocre, on average. A 1000-baht meal is roughly equivalent to what might cost 400 baht elsewhere. Plus, it doesn't cover drinks, which have an even higher markup than the food (say, 140 baht for a coke). Yes, you do get 20% off drinks, so that will cancel out the tax and service charge. Personally, I just order water (sometimes free if you ask for naam-blau).
Although the tax and service charge are covered by the voucher, they sometimes hand you a check with the line "Additional tip _____". If you're below the 1000 Baht mark, I suppose you could just fill the in rest with the tip. If I'm over 1000 baht, I'll zero it out, but it annoys me to have to do so.
There apparently is some Starwood policy that they won't wrap food to take home. However, they let us do it anyways. There's nothing on the voucher that prohibits this, so I think you might win an argument with the manager. And, of course, I doubt that they will physically block you from shoving the food into your own baggie or box. :)
Despite some of the minor annoyances, I think Starwood Privilege is a valuable program, especially if you'll be visiting at least 3 of the destinations outside Bangkok during the year. It's a good excuse to get out and explore different locales.

Missed the :D, I guess. :) But, it shouldn't be surprising because I know of where I speak. You would not believe the volume of spam I get to that email address, but it is published here nonetheless as a courtesy to folks like you.
