Hilton HHonors - Golds/Diamonds: Parking your car at the airport hotels without staying?

My mother-in-law said that her neighbour is a Hilton Gold (then again she thought she was a Hilton Platinum ;)) and instead of parking at the airport lots he just calls the airport Hilton and asks if he can leave his car there. Apparently it is never a problem and they never charge him but it surprised me as I'd never consider it. After not all hotel car parks are that big and they'd rapidly fill up.

Flying from an airport I usually book a night at the best value Hilton hotel and stay the night leaving the following morning, or if it is a good deal, check-in and just take the shuttle to the airport.

Do any other Golds/Diamonds park at the hotel even though they aren't staying?

HA! If you do so, be SURE you empty out your car, as if YOU don't, some SLIMEBALL will. I used to do this very thing at the Hilton by ABQ...

Until, one time, i came back from my trip, found a window bashed in, and a radar detector lifted...cost more to fix the window
than many, many, parking trips would have.

Isn't that possible at any parking lot? or if you just booked a park and fly rate?

Certain hotels (BOS for example) will not allow you to park there if you aren't a guest while others (EWR) operate public lots that do not require a stay but one must still pay.

I'd be curious precisely which property allows the free parking option.

Be sure you are not at a hotel that asks for your make, model and tag number. Wouldn't want to get towed if you left it there for a few days. If you were only on a overnight trip it would probably be no problem, but then again, would it really be worth it?

Most hotels do have a park & fly rate. I've done it many times.

IT all depends on the hotel. In second tier cities a lot of them do it. Why not they have the extra room so it is free money.

I've done it accidently once (Took a VDB on a run, when I was parked at a LAS hotel). I've done it another time in PHX, but only for a few days. At most lots, if it's for a week or less, it would probably be easy to get away with it.

The off-airport lot where I park at ATL has cameras and regular patrols. A breakin's possible, but much less likely, I think, than at an airport hotel lot.
