Hello flyers,

I have an upcoming trip leaving from LAX-HKG-KUL. LAX-HKG leg is on Y and onward leg to KUL is J. When checking in in LAX, should I go to Y counter or head to J counter? I like checking in with counter because I love collecting the bording stub. :D

Thank you for your input. Happy Holidays...

Even if they accept you at the J counter (which I think they probably will since part of your journey is in J, assuming it's just a transit at HKG) you'll get a Y boarding pass for the first leg.

As for the lounge, then the rules say no.

Or pray for an op-up because I've been upgraded several times from Y to J due to a full or oversold Y.

As the OP has no status, I would say the chance of this is extremely low/nonexistent. Pray for a broken seat in Y, with J or F availability!

Technically, a person who get op-upped cannot get additional benefits such as lounge access. So the chance of getting lounge access in LAX is virtually zero.

OP may have the time to try out the Wing or the Pier in HKG though.

Thank you all for your input.

To save myself from embarrassment, I think I will check in at the Y counter instead.

I will have 4 hours to kill in HKG, I sure will enjoy the WING or PIER.

Even if you check-in in Y counter, you will still get the same kind of BP you get from a J counter. It's not like some U. S. airlines that give cheap BPs in Y counter.

OR is there anyway to purchase lounge pass?

No - only at HKIA, not at outports (and only then if you are an MPC member, not just AsiaMiles).

Another possibility is to purchase an AA admiral club day pass for $50. Other airlines lounges have passes too. You will have to research that and see if how far the lounge options are to your departure gate.

Can you get into T4 for the AA lounge if you're departing on Cathay from the international terminal?

People can get into the secured area if they need to access the AC, but there is really no reason to get into AC if departing from the international terminal.

Great idea. I'm not familier with LAX. So, I looked at the terminal map. Looks like T4 is just next door to TBIT. Hopefully its not too far of the walk.

Is it really sooo important for you to get into a lounge????

Around midnight the terminal is virtually deserted anyway. Plus you'd have to go thru security which sometimes can be a pain. Hang around the food court, have a soda or something.

I find trespsing to and from T4 and TBIT is a pain in the a##, plus I honestly do not know if you can enter the AAdmirals Club lounge whilst holding a CX boarding pass.

I don't know about the layout of LAX and I don't know if it is worth it to the OP to enter AC and depart from a CX gate. However, getting in to the AC by a day pass has no boarding pass requirement, unlike getting in by status or other means.

There is a pay-in lounge (New) at TBIT, just at the food court. It is called ReLAX. I don't know the prices or opening hours, but definitely go check it out. But note that it is before security, so allow yourself extra time to get to the gate.

Some other members asked about AC day-pass with CX boarding pass.

I think the problem is if the TSA staff will allow a CX boarding pass to T4. If you are successful, then enter the Admirals Club lounge, and then take the bus from I believe gate 44, which brings you directly to TBIT without passing through security. An alternative way is to exit T4, walk to TBIT (About 1 minute walk), and enter TBIT again.

I think the problem is if the TSA staff will allow a CX boarding pass to T4. ....AA has to issue you a "boarding pass" for the AC in order to get you through the security at T4. This is to ensure that your records go through the full TSA security check in the computer. AA will issue you such a pass only if pre-arranged at least 24 hours in advance (either AC member or by buying a day pass ahead of time). Most but not all Aagents are familiar with this procedure; if problems, request a supervisor. But I really don't think the AC is worth this much effort and cost (you don't get access to the FL side of the lounge, which is where the nicer drinks and food is). Using the new ReLax sounds like a better idea (finally TBIT has a pay lounge that anyone can use).

I think I will take Guy's suggestion. Walk around a little at the food court, buy some See's Candy. Lounge access is not all that important to me.

Thank you guys for your input.

I have a friend flying to Asia for the first time next week on month-long tour of Hong Kong, Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam, Cambodia and the Philippines.

I won't be able to join her until the end of January but it would of been nice to leave this cold prairie winter a lot sooner.

She has a layover in YVR to HKG on Monday, January 5th at the God-awful hour of 02:00. Are there any CX/FT members willing/able to guest her into the CX lounge in YVR?

Just following up with a quick repost to see if anyone will be in YVR CX Lounge that's willing to guest/sponsor this evening. TIA.
