Cathay Pacific Asia Miles - Can you view reservation on CX site with PNR only?

We have Oneworld J awards that have several CX segments. On CX website, I could not find a way to pull up the reservation with CX PNR only. The only area where you can view your trip is to log in under either MPC or Asia Mile membership number.
Both QF and JL let you pull up reservation with their own PNRs.
JL even let you select seat online.
Does CX pre-assign seats via phone only? or does it even pre-assign seats at all for non-elites?
Your responses are appreciated.

This question is asked and answered over and over again. If you don't have AM/MPC membership then you cannot see or do anything with your reservation until 48 hours before when you can do online check-in with the e-ticket number if it is a CX or KA e-ticket.
If you are in business or first or high fare economy then you can get seat pre-assignments either via the people who booked your ticket (AA desk at a guess) or via CX reservations.

I don't know how true this is, but this is what I was told by a reservations agent (perhaps she made it up?) and asked why I can't view CX PNRs online without having either an AsiaMiles or Marco Polo Club number in the reservation, while I can do so for other airlines (such as BA's Manage my Booking).
Her answer was that "this is to encourage CX flyers to sign up for AsiaMiles/Marco Polo Club memberships as it costs CX less to award pax with AsiaMiles rather than miles/points in the programs of other airlines".

I tried a search on this forum and turned up nothing. May be I use the wrong keywords. Not a problem, I would just call CX to get seat assignments as we are holding J seats. None of the CX flights involved are longhaul, thankfully, so even without seat assignment ahead of check-in, would not be a biggie. I am just wondering why CX is so backward - BA for example, would let you view your reservation w/o BA FF number, ditto AA. Most other airlines let you pull up reservation by PNR alone.

I think she got it backward - CX cannot recoup anything from CX awards claimed by AsiaMiles/MPC, other than the fuel surcharge. However, CX definitely can get paid a good chunk by partner airlines on awards claimed by partner airline miles. Likewise, when AsiaMiles member claims an AA award, CX would need to pay AA for that award seat.
It is universal rule that it costs near 0 for award seats on the airline's own metal, but it costs quite a bit for award seats on partner airlines flights.

She did not get it backwards. She was talking about earning miles, not redeeming miles. When miles are earned in AM, it is part of their own, not to mention it has one of the worst earn/burn ratios.

As many people have been asking this question over and over again, a sticky was put up at the top of the forum. Happy, you would have been able to see it right at the top ordone a search using the word itinerary.
If you had booked through a TA, then your TA will give you their CRS access.
Anyway, please refer to this thread if you want...
FYI - CX is not backward. They just have their software for their reservations. BA / QF and a couple of European airlines use Amadeus which can be accessed thru checkmytrip.com and AA, AS, GF use virtuallythere.com thru Sabre.

I misunderstood your post - I was thinking about redemption, not earning miles.
Signing up AsiaMiles does not guarantee flyers to earn AsiaMiles on CX flights.
For example I put all my Continental flights to earn AS miles, despite I also have OnePass account (and some balances in it too).
I know a person who does not earn AsiaMiles thru flying, instead, the person ONLY add to the AsiaMiles aco.... when she sees the need to redeem CX awards, via conversion on SPG pts. Therefore totally by pass the need to earn AsiaMiles via flying CX on pay tickets!
