I am going to New Orleans in June 2009 and the prices are already high.
Does anyone know any inexpensive hotels near to the convention center/french quater . As long as they are clean I am pretty flexible. I am traveling with a co-worker so I need a place where I can get two double beds.

Prefer not to stay in bed and breakfast.
Thanks
:)

June tends to be off-season there, but the N.O. hotel market is very much driven by events: festivals and conventions and sporting events, etc. What dates are you going, and what is your nightly budget?

I agree with swag. Unless there's a mega-convention in town, you should be able to do quite well for very little money.

Try searching on the sites of the major chains. There are Comfort Suites, Courtyards, Hampton Inn, Hilton Garden Inns, Staybridge Suites, etc., etc., all in the area that you want. If you want anything cheaper than those, it wouldn't be in a hotel that I would recommend staying in.

These four mid-range hotels are all about the same price (Sheraton and Ren a bit more) for when I want to travel. They are also about equivalent in location, on the fringes of the French Quarter.

Does anyone have any advice about which is best? I am just looking for the most comfortable, spacious room. An executive lounge (I have top-tier status in all of these chains) would be a plus as well.

I'm thinking that for the Ren, there's always a thread going on in the Marriott forum about which Marriot is better in NOLA. A search should pull it up.

I just kayaked rates for a week in the middle of June and found all the major hotels were cheap. I mean, really really cheap. Cheaper than I've seen them since post- 9/11.

When are you going to NOLA? If there's a special event, as PP have noted, that may be the difference.

As stated in the OP, she/he is going in June. There are no major events scheduled as of yet, although the Cajun/Zydeco Festival at the Old Mint might be fun. Check out the Visitor's Bureau website:

No major trade conventions or anything at or near the convention center? Not talking festivals.

My kayak search was for the dead center of June, but there was no way I was gonna search the whole month for her.

Convention business is generally slow during the summer in New Orleans.

I did happen to see this today, at http://www.forbes.com/feeds/ap/2009/01/02/ap5874162.html

At least seven conventions have already been booked for June and July - typically slow months for the city's bread-and-butter tourism industry because of the hot, sticky weather. That's in a period when perhaps two conventions, in addition to the Essence music festival, is considered nice going.

If you are an IC Royal Ambassador, try the Intercontinental on St Charles. Just returned from a New Years Eve stay there. It's 2 blocks from canal..a short walk to the French quarter, casino, waterfront, etc, and in a quieter local. I booked a club room and was upgraded to a newly renovated 2 room corner hospitality suite . Executive lounge is a bit small, but excellent service. Breakfast, hors d'oeuvres, cocktails etc. Roof top pool, health club. The walk to the French quarter is quick and easy..cabs abundant and right on the street car line. Use an Ambassador BOGO and it becomes a great deal
