A great program, but hardly unique. Other carriers allow you to pay ~$100 to bring your pet on the plane, too.
Didn't they have the in-flight travel program anyways? This is just a way for them to sell the travel kits, from what I can see. Oh, and the two bonus points, which is nice.

my former boss used to try to sneak his poodle on board without paying the $50 fee (in 2006) and would always get caught when the damn thing started barking, lol
I agree its a nice way to earn 2 bonus points but on short trips it will be more expensive to fly your dog to the destination than what your ticket would have cost you... than again, with the current high fares, its about the same price to fly your dog under the seat in front of you as you'd pay for your seat. :p

The two points is a nice perk. Two years ago when i flew with my cat from JFK to PHX, I didn't want to fly with the carrier under the seat in front of me and purchased an extra seat for the storage space. I STILL had to pay the $50 pet fee, even though I'd purchased the extra seat. And I didn't even get the points.

Many people, and I say many people attempt this. People do get away with it, but the ones we catch are required to pay the pet fee upon arrival.
I just got the program announcement email from B6 and noticed one thing in it that actually makes a lot of sense:
Pet carrier bag tag - a bag tag will be attached to your pet carrier at check in to let everyone know your pet is ready to jet.
They are putting in place a program that will allow a GA to know that the pet fee has been paid and to easily deal with it if the fee hasn't been paid. Makes a lot of sense, especially considering how expensive the fee is.

Got a funny story for you. I asked a woman boarding with her pet carrier, if she had received her Pet bag tag and she freaked out thinking I was trying to gate check her pet!!!
I took that to mean she either didn't receive the tag or took it off, for fear that Fido would end up in the cargo hold.

Sounds good to me.
I flew from RSW to JFK this morning and a shih tzu in my row barked for the entire 2 hours and 33 minutes, with the exception of a possible 20 minute break. The owner did next to nothing to try to stop the dog's barking. I got no sleep, but gained a headache.
This isn't an anti-dog-post or an anti-dog-flying post, I just needed to sleepily rant.

It seems to be working. I've seen several of those new pet carriers and a couple of pet tags. I asked those with the tags and carriers how they liked the new policy and what not and for the most part they seemed to love it. Especially the part where your pet earns a couple of trueblue points for you as well. The biggest sticking point was the pet fee which I can understand. I do think it is too high but that is my opinion. Luckly for me my dog is too large to fit in or under the cabin so I don't have to worry about paying for him. Unfortunatly for me if I ever move I'll have to drive because that is the only way he could get from one place to another :p

Is the pet fee still $50 o/w?
Is the pet fee still $50 o/w?
Nope. They doubled it to $100 each way in December when they announced the program.

It's still better than Delta, which charges $150 one-way for a pet. I'm flying JFK-SEA in May with my cat (I'm moving to SEA and I need to get her out there) and chose JetBlue because of the cheaper pet fee and the fact that I'm sick of flying Delta.
And Southwest doesn't allow pets at all. They'll tell you to buy a ticket on another airline. I guess someone ran the numbers and decided that losing this business was better than carrying pets. I wonder if that would still be true at $100 each way, but charging $100 would run counter to Southwest's no-fee ad campaign.
