Cathay Pacific Asia Miles - CX SL/OW Ruby cannot use BA Club check-in?

I have just flown from JFK - LHR. While checking-in in JFK BA's club counters, the BA guy said with my CX SL, I should not be using their business class check-in. While I have used business counters of other OW carriers (AA, CX, QF, IB) no problem, does BA have some odd rules that I missed out?

From CX's MPO site:
oneworld benefits

As a Silver member of The Marco Polo Club, you will be extended special recognition and benefits no matter which oneworld airline you fly. Silver membership is equivalent to oneworld Ruby, and earns you the following privileges:

Priority check-in at Business Class counters, regardless of your class of travel
Preferred seating
Priority standby and waitlisting

No - just an ignorant BA check-in person. It happens.

Carry a printout of this page if it's important to you: http://www.oneworld.com/ow/ffp/oneworld-status

BA is best known for its own interpretation (or its own set) of OW rules. I do not even know why they bother to stay in OW.

This happened to me many years ago in Edinburgh - they said that BA don't offer ruby benefits as they don't have an equivalent card

Correct. The problem is that BA does not have an equivalent tier. As to the answer it is either therefore that BA does indeed NOT offer the benefit as it does not receognise Ruby, or due to lack of familiarity staff dont know what a Ruby is.

It's the latter. BA isn't exempt from recognizing priority checkin for Rubies (remember the red oval in T1 Zone 1?); it's just that training for checkin staff is pretty dismal. The lack of recognition is particularly bad outside LHR.

I echo christep's advice, though admittedly it's an unnecessary annoyance having to flash that printout.

I suspect more than the first BA level that entitles biz class check in and lounge access is Saphire (BA Silver).

BA tends to still try to preserve the 'value' of its higher level FF scheme and premium products.

A suggestion future would be to use the self-check in machines at JFK using your booking ref if need be, then if need be use fast bag drop. (Unlike CX, you can use this to access your booking on ba.com, provided you get the 6 letter ref from CX - unlike CX the rest of OW uses a different res system).

I guess the point is - if BA is not to extend priority check-in to OW Ruby, it should be stated as an exception to OW rules.

BTW, this thread has more to do with OW.

Something similar happened to me in Berlin this year too. They refused to give me priority tags for my baggage, and I am CX DM. Didn't bother to argue.

Priority check-in is an OW benefit, but priority tags are not - although CX is kind enough to offer that to other OW passengers.

It's the first time it's happened to me on BA. In the past they have given me priority tags when travelling WTP ex-HK and LHR.

In HKG and LHR, they are doing that probably because CX is doing that.

I have never had any problems with BA when I was Ruby and they always gave me full service and benefits
