Cathay Pacific Asia Miles - Upgrade to another day!? help plz

Hi all,
I'm booked on a ticket on Jan 1st from HKG-YYZ in economy class. Will it work if I upgrade to business on another date say Jan 8th? I checked online and it says the econ class is full but j class seats still have some on the 8th.

So the question is, do i have to have an econ class ticket on the 8th in order to upgrade to j?

Yes, you need to change to economy class booking in order to do a mileage upgrade, i.e. you need to have a seat available on the 8th in the same economy booking class you had on the 1st.

Yes! Your Y ticket has to be on the same flight/date you want to upgrade.

But, looking at the fare class availability, it looks like it is op-up heaven on that flight, so if you have elite status, I would say there is a very chance of op-up.

actually for my ticket on the 1st, there still some remaining j class as well as f class. but econ is full. I'm hoping for an op-up on that day too. Last year I got a free op-up on Jan 1st due to econ overbooked and my entry to MPC. This time i just switched to silver and again econ is full. So best of luck to me!
