When booking on the Choice Hotels site, they offer a "Choice Business Rate". The rate page says:
Rate Program: Choice Business Rate - (An eligible party with identification must occupy the room to qualify for the Choice Business Rate.)
What does this mean? Can anyone book this? What happens if we book this and are staying on vacation?

Some hotels require ID for different rates, some locations do not. An example is the AAA rate--some ask for your card, some don't. My suggestion would be to call the specific hotel and ask how they apply the rate.

I usually book using the business rate. I've never had anyone ever ask so see an ID or question whether I was on "official" business.

You just have to be a 'business traveler':
Choice Business Rate--The Choice Business Rate Program offers a minimum of 5% off retail rates to business travelers. This rate is eligible for Choice Privileges® points at Comfort Inn, Comfort Suites, Quality, Sleep Inn, Clarion, Cambria Suites, MainStay Suites, Suburban Extended Stay Hotel, Econo Lodge and Rodeway Inn hotels or Airline Rewards at all brands in the U.S., Canada, Europe, Mexico and the Caribbean. There must be a business traveler in the room to receive this discount. Rate is subject to availability

Pretty much anyone qualifies.

I've never used the rate because AAA (I'm a member) or Little League (open to all) tend to have cheaper rates, especially the latter.

I have found the sixty plus rate to be consistently the lowest and have never been "carded" ;)
