Hertz - Big Change At Toronto Airport

Return car this morning, waiting for guy with hand held to come to car and check me in.
See that there is no one out there, walk over to #1 gold booth.
Told that effective today (12/11/08) they have eliminated that position, and customers must now remember mileage, gas, and walk over to booth.
Fine at 7am, but this is going to be a mess on a Thursday at 5pm.
Any other airports cutting back like this?

Not sure about other airports, but I know Avis at YYZ has shut down their Preferred Service booth (same deal as Gold basically). I'm picking up from National this evening and hope they still have their Emerald Reserve Aisle running, I'll be disheartened if I'm at the mercy of a counter agent to get a car as I often don't have the best luck with them...

Looks like this is happening at PHL as well....Just returned a car to Hertz PHL today around 8am...and was told to take the mileage down and go into the booth to return car, there will be no one outside.

That sux, so much for ease and convenience. So when do they check the fuel guage? The last time I brought back a car without an attending (pre-6 a.m.), I was charged for 14litres of gas, even though I had filled it up. The following time I went to complain and they told me that my receipt showed that I filled it up the night before, so no good (also that downtown TO was 52 km from the airport, so no way I could still have a full tank --- its half that distance!)

I just remembered when I was at YYZ T3 last night the Gold booth was running at ~11:30 pm. Names were on the board and there was an attendant at the gate in the Gold booth. They even had a 328i and A4 parked there, made me envious as I sauntered over to my 32,000 km Grand Prix from National... :(

Er, maybe we didn't have the same return guy.
I filled up RIGHT outside the airport and he tried to charge me for 7/8 of a tank. :( My final Hertz experience of 2008 was a disaster from start to finish, starting with no cars and ending with return guy disputing my full tank.

at YYZ?
I wonder if enough people complained and they rehired all the return guys?

Which location?
mine was at Terminal 1 at YYZ. Guy was moderately quick, checked my kilometres, asked me if I filled the tank (did not ask for the receipt), printed out my receipt and even offered how to get to my flight faster (well not helpful, but was shockingly CS-friendly).

Must be the dude with the minor speech impediment (mild stutter)! Yeah, he's a super friendly chap. He says he never asks for the gas receipt if the gas tank is obviously showing full to him.

^ yup, sounds like the guy. Anyway, he has been friendlier than anyone I have encountered at the YYZ Hertz. The Gold counter crew, IMO, are the worst, that is when I stay around long enough as they are usually in the back office hiding!

Which location?
YYZ T1. He wasn't very friendly to me - just told me that I owed for 7/8 of a tank, and only agreed when I pulled out my receipt from the gas station nearby.
No cars when I arrived, my name was not on the board, and so I gave up for a few hours sleep. Returned a little later, still zero names on the board, no cars. Not the best rental experience!
I did however get a snow brush this time, so I suppose I can't complain...

Didn't you know that a snow brush is an upgrade for Hertz Canada? :D
So you got the same "friendly" chap as neuron and I?
Zero names on the board? I know once in awhile there is a problem with the system... perhaps you got a taste of that anomaly? I assure you Hertz YYZ T1 Gold/5*/PC service isn't too shabby (except for some of the Gold counter crew).

Yes, I learned that after my 'Hertz in snow' thread. It is an upgrade at YEG as well apparently!
Zero names. At night and again in the morning. I have yet to experience the not too shabby service, other than PC getting me Princess Parking at YYZ T1.

Last week - I believe that I returned on the 30th.
Ah well, 2009 is starting with no need for Hertz, so Hertz and I can take a short break from each other and meet up again in the spring! :p

Man... How much cost saving can they do? What's next? Car won't get wash any more? Wait, it's happening already.
