On november 9 we flew AMS-CAI-BKK. The check inn at AMS opened 3 hours before the flight and the check inn was quick. Egypt Air uses a lounge at Schiphol together with other airlines. You have a nice view , enough to drink and read altough the snacks are so so.There is no priority boarding for business class. The aircraft was a A330 . The seat were for us very nice , but no flat beds. Cabin crew was nice , the cabin was half empty. The food and non alcoholic drinks were also very good , we had choice over 3 main courses. Transfering in Cairo was a bit chaotic but witht a smile and a joke everything went ok. The Cairo lounge is nothing:td:. Maybe this will change with the opening of terminal 3. The flight from CAI to BKK was on a B777. The seat are not half that good as on the A330 but we had once again a nice meal and a good rest. We arrived in our Sukhumvit hotel one hour after landing^.We had our return flight BKK-CAI-AMS cancelled due the protest in BKK:mad:We went to the Egypt air office in Bangkok and to ask when we could fly home. The only possibility was flying back from Kuala Lumpur and than to Brussel (50 km from home). The Egypt Air staff (miss Rosie) was super^ she tryed everyhing to get us back soner but as we al know , chaos. So we went to Kuala Lumpur via Cambodia (cheap air asia flight). Our return flight once again was the A330 and once again everything was fine.
Final verdict : for us , as paying our own tickets Egypt Air offers a nice product for a fair price. :) I would really fly them again but I will wait to go back to Bangkok for a few months. I payed about 800 Euro's extra on accomodation , transport ,visa etc to get to KUL. How I will get a return :confused:I is not Egypt airs fault it is the fault of the Thai goverment by not acting on the siege of the airport. But I think I have a hard time to sue them:mad:

At least you got back!
Some friends were stuck in Pakse,Laos and their Eva Air BKK/LHR was cancelled.
They ended up flying Pakse,Siem Reap,Pnom Phen,Saigon,Hongkong and then to LHR-all in two days (and their luggage arrived with them!)

I sampled Egyptair's PEK-BKK flight in a 777 (C class). My experience resembled the OP's but my overall assessment is a bit more negative.

As the OP said, there was no priority boarding for C class. In fact, I never heard a boarding call at all - I just heard a lot of rustling and went to follow the herd. Same with the announcement that the flight would be delayed one hour. There was no announcement over speakers, just a hand-written sign (hey, at least they didn't use crayon).

I also agree that the B777 C cabin was not so great. I would rank it well below any of the major *A carriers (except perhaps TG's AB6). It's closer to domestic F. Seat pitch was about 40 inches (bulkhead seats were a little better). Seat width was acceptable. The seats were an unattractive mustard yellow leather/fabric combo, with severe signs of wear. Reminded me of an old city bus. The seats had an ash tray, if that helps you date them. Recline was poor, making sleep a challenge. No power for laptops. However, they did have footrests and a decent IFE in each seat (7-8 inches?) with several movie channels (poor selection). Slippers were provided. The cabin was 15% full (making the flight a bit more bearable), though if course that can't be typical.

The food was simple but somewhat tasty, and served with alarming speed. Service was just ok to poor. Some simple requests in English were not understood (e.g., artificial sweetener, which they actually did have). The male FA's were dressed like pilots. I also could not understand the pilot's English very well. Fortunately, those messages rarely contain much useful information anyway.

I'd recommend avoiding Egyptair on award travel, at least on the B777, but it might be an OK value for paid tickets or on their A330 (which I've never experienced).

Hey BitE, your above report is glowing compared to what I'd have to say about my MS flight from CAI to TYO return. And I was in F class!

Ya, agree on that. MS flights are great for accruing miles due to their cheap fares but only use them as a last resort for award tickets.

On my entire flight from Tokyo yesterday, I keep saying to myself - its just for the miles, its just for the miles, its just for the miles. And next time (if I could even dare think of a next time), I'd bring my own movie entertainment, food, drinks (after security), etc...
