Wow, finally! OZ will reduce its fuel surcharges as follows:
With effect for tickets issued on/after 1st January 2009:
For journeys starting in Korea, currency: USD
Korea <-> Europe/USA/Australia => Was: $140 Now: $41
Korea <-> non-Japan Shorthaul routes => Was: $62 Now: $18
Korea <-> Japan routes excl. CJU/PUS<->FUK => Was: $32 Now: $9
CJU/PUS<->FUK => Was: $29 Now: $8
I'm not 100% sure whether all other starting countries will reflect a lower fuel surcharge at the same time, but the discount will probably follow very soon, if not immediately.

sorry to say I was told this was ONLY for KR originating flights since their surcharges are out of line. No intention to include other origins.

This is not possible. Fuel surcharges are regulated in Korea based on what I read online such as here:
http://asia.news.yahoo.com/081201/4/3suut.html
There is only one price depending on the destination. A flight from Korea to USA will incur the same YQ as USA to Korea.

This is interesting... I have just booked a one-way award ticket JFK-ICN in F on 12/24 and the agent told me the taxes & fees would be about $110, which is supposed to include the fuel surcharge.
Also, when I looked at the fare rule for the full-fare ticket of the same F flight (just for kicks), it had an entry saying that fuel surcharge to be included in the fare will be $90. Also, when I bought a round-trip Y ticket (PIT-ICN) last month, I remember the fare rule stating the same, fuel surcharge to be $90.
Wanted to quote the relevant part in the fare rule but looks like ITA is down for now. :rolleyes: Maybe later...

I've just found it! The fare rule is clear on this issue, the fuel surcharge is different depending on the ticket's origin: (highlights mine)

so YQ is indeed down.. but not quite enough. Hope they decrease it further as the oil price stabilizes.

Makes me mull over the difference between the steep decline in the fuel surcharge ($221 -> $140 -> $41) originating from Korea, which probably is due to the duopoly of KE & OZ constrained only by Korean government, and the less-than-steep decline ($100 -> $90 -> $???) of the same (which was not really that high to start with) originating from USA, which probably results from actual competition among all the airlines operating the transpacific routes.
No announcement on us.flyasiana.com regarding this, by the way...

Bear in mind that if you are pricing an itinerary on ITA right now, then the date of ticketing will not be after 1JAN, so it's not possible to know what the discount will be from 1JAN unless you're looking at a press release. The amounts I have quoted above were taken from the OZ Korean website.
I actually think that USD41 is almost negligible for a longhaul segment, and equally USD18 for say, ICN-BKK is pretty much nothing. Much better than the USD300+ that NH charges for longhaul at the moment...
