Korean Air Skypass - Award Ticket Seat Selection

I have an Award Ticket with KE, booked through NW in KE U class. I have my KE Reservation # but I cannot log into my res on Koreanair.com. When I call the 1800# they say that I cannot pick my seats ahead of time for these flights in Feburary. I've called twice, one agent said that its because the seat assignment window was 'closed', and the other said it was because I am on an award ticket. My routing is LAX-ICN/GMP-PUS-HKG, and I am a SkyTeam elite (but I failed to mention that to them on the telephone).
Any suggestions?

I also have a KE award ticket. I was able to call a KE agent and pick some seats, though they weren't the ones I'd pick if I had a choice. I didn't sense any eagerness to help find a decent seat either.

I had no trouble calling to book seats on an award ticket in the past (though they were Business class). As long as your FF# is in the res they should recognize your status (though I'm not sure that makes a difference).

As with NW, there is an advance time limit on KE. I cannot remember if it is 30, 60 or 90 days, but something like that. It is stated explicitly on their seat selection page (website).
Added: so I figured, why am I so lazy this morning? It is 90 days as per KE's website. The Advanced Seat Selection page is a bit ambiguous on the issue however.

Create a KE account and ask them to give you a KE Reservation#.

The missing step is getting the KE FF# on the NW award ticket. Neat trick.

But I have Gold Elite with NW, and would have nothing with KE.

I created a Skypass #, attached it to my NW reservation, and even had Korean Air connect my KE reservation # to my Skypass #. My flights are in 10 days from now. I can log in to koreanair.com and see my reservation, but can not select a seat assignment.

If KE flight is DL code share, you can choose your seats on Delta.com

How? I can log in to my Delta account. I click on the "itineraries & check in" tab, but it can't find my reservation with either the NW confirmation # or the KE confirmation #.
At least I can pretend to buy a ticket and pull up the available seat map. Thats more than I could do on nwa.com or koreanair.com.
The flight is KE 18 or DL7858.

Did you book on Delta.com or Delta reservation?

I booked on nwa.com.
Unless the ticket was issued on koreanair.com, you can not do seat assignments online. I have upcoming BC reward travel on KE in March - and had no trouble getting seat assignments by calling KE some months back. The KE confirmation number does not do much for seat assignments.
I also got a KE FF # last time I had KE BC rewards, but unless you have enough miles in your KE account - you can not see inventory.
NWA.com now shows KE award inventory - but only for NW/DL FFers. My tickets have been issued through CO - but CO gets less inventory allocated on KE.
If you do call and get seat assignments - you can check that those seats get assigned properly but going to travelocity.com and try booking a ticket and looking at the "view seats". It will show KE seatmap - so you can check before and after you get your seat assignments to verify those are then allocated.

That is what CO told me in 2006 even though I had just received a letter from Korean stating that the inventory made available to NW is the same as the inventory that is made available to CO.
I booked a business award for next week using CO miles. I called Korean and had them insert my Korean FF number into the reservation so I could pull it up on-line. When I hit the seat select button a pop up says that you can pre-select only on purchased reservations. I will try calling.

I booked an economy award using CO Onepass miles for a flight in February. Calling Korean Air's Los Angeles office yielded a somewhat surly agent who was happy to give me my choice of aisle or window but claimed the row I requested was unavailable despite the fact seats there are open to the general public on delta.com. Basically I had no choice of row and he put me way in the back of the plane stating that was the best that was available even though it was not. Skyteam Elite Plus status didn't seem to count for anything either. I kind of got the overall impression that the attitude was that award tickets are free therefore that puts them one class lower than economy class.

Is there a consensus that if you didn't buy the ticket from Korean Air directly (whether online or over the phone) that you can't choose seats online?
I am flying NRT-ICN, GMP-SHA in July on a NW J award and took the KE PNR from my reservation confirmation email and called to have them add my skypass number (thinking this would enable me to view it online). The woman on the phone said I gave her a NW PNR and therefore she couldn't put my Skypass number on it. What I gave her was distinctly different from my NW PNR, so I'm rather confused. She offered me a choice of seats, and I took them though.
Also, I followed the previous advice of going to travelocity.com to check assignments. They were assigned, but for the 747-400 that I'm flying NRT-ICN, does the seat map just lump the upper deck behind the lower deck business cabin?

I booked a Biz Class reward ticket using CO miles JFK-ICN-BKK-ICN-NRT-LAX (KE) and LAX-JFK (DL) on March 11th, for an early July departure. Immediately call the KE number given to me by CO (800-438-5000) and was able select seats on all of the KE segments. ^ KE retrieved the reservation record by using my last name and date of departure, and the phone agent was pleasant and helpful. So no issues in my experience getting assigned seats on KE, but it will be interesting to see if they remain the same or get changed before the trip.

On travelocity the upper deck is indeed shown right behind the lower deck business class. Just use a seat map from seatguru or elsewhere to check actual row numbers.
I just recently made another set of seat assignments on a CO Business class award ticket. This time I called the Los Angeles number again, but it was very late and the voice mail system said they were closed and I was being transferred to "another call center". I presume I got Korea instead of US. The woman I spoke with this time was quite pleasant and helpful and I was able to pick any seat I wanted. Much nicer than the surly &#%* I talked with in LA last time who wouldn't give me my choice of seats and stuck me way in the back of the half empty plane. I don't know if they were so much nicer this time because I was business class, because I was talking to Korea instead of the US, or just luck of the draw on which agent answered the phone but it was night and day the difference.

Just a note to say I'm in the same boat, with J class award tickets issued by NW, but rang in on the US toll-free number and securing good seats for a July flight was no problem at all. I spoke with a very helpful, older-sounding Korean lady who emailed me itinerary confirmations immediately. Couldn't have been easier.
