Mexico - How to get from SJD to Cabo San Lucas (Marina)

I am spending a few days in Cabo San Lucas in a few weeks, don't ask me why, I don't have a good reason other than I wanted to get out of Phoenix for a few days and the prices were cheap.

I am landing at SJD at 3:30 PM on Friday. My hotel is Cabo San Lucas near the Marina, which I understand is about 40 minutes away. I leave on Sunday at 4:00 PM.

What are my options for getting from the airport to Cabo San Lucas, and back again on Sunday?

What is the approximate cost of a taxi?

Are there shared airport shuttles, and what is the approximate costs and length of time it would take?

Is there a public transport option, and what is the cost, comfort level and time factor?

I'm only there for a couple days (2 nights, 2 days for a total of 48.5 hours), so I wasn't planning on getting out of Cabo San Lucas at all. As such, I wasn't planning on renting a car, though I would be willing to look at renting if it is more economical. Parking is free at my hotel.

We recently used and were satisfied with:

http://www.transcabo.com.mx/transportation.php?t=reserv&rf=

Rental cars at SJD start at 50USD per day including full insurance.

Public transportation won't take you to the door of your hotel at the Marina.

Contact your concierge for any "special deals" your hotel may have negotiated that fit your needs.

I use Arturo from Translobo http://translobo.blogspot.com/, his email is

translobo@gmail.com
75.00 each way

He includes water, soft drinks and beer upon arrival at SJD and will make any stops along the way as needed. Vehicles are either suburbans or vans, I've had both and are in very good condition.

I ended up taking a shared shuttle from the airport, and back again on my return. $15 each way. The ride to the hotel took a while because I was one of the last to be dropped off, but it was comfortable.

For those looking for public transit - there are buses which run into Cabo San Lucas. You can catch them on the highway and they take you into town, where you would have to find someway to your hotel. Price is about $2.00, I heard.

Many airlines serve the Los Cabos International Airport from locations in Mexico, Canada and the United States. Airport to town: You can rent a car, take a cab, or hop in a van. The van ticket booth is located just as you leave the airport. For the van, they charge you about $11 US dollars (approximately $80 pesos) each and take you right to your hotel. You can ask the van driver to stop at a liquor store for drinks because it is a long dusty ride into town (45 minutes with no stops and no traffic). It makes the ride more fun for everyone. Taxis have jumped to $60.00 into Cabo San Lucas.

I just got back from Cabo, and booked our car service with Arturo after seeing this thread.

I can confirm he is a very nice guy, prompt, great value etc.

Happy to hear it worked out well for you. Was he able to stop on the way into Cabo or has the situation not changed?

In the initial email I was told that there was a new law, so car services were not allowed to stop at Costco, Walmart etc on the way from the airport. I did not press the issue since no one was all that interested in shopping a Costco after our flight.

He did say we could make a short stop, so picked up a few supplies at a small grocery store on the way.

I also read that the if you take a cab or shuttle from the airport to your hotel, you are not allowed to use a car service on the trip back to the airport. The car service has to be both ways or nothing. They have some strange laws.
