Hi,
My wife and I have a few days booked in Kota Kinabalu at the Shangri-La (STAR). Obviously the place has a few restaurant choices anyway, but are there any no to miss places in town/nearby?
Also, as we're there over New Year's Eve, is there anything special that goes on?
Thanks
Tony

Rasa Ria or Tanjung Anu??
Rasa Ria is about 45 minutes from KK. Tanjung Anu is about 10 minutes from downtown. My favorite seafood restaurant is Portview which is across the street from Le Meridien.
Buffet at the Shangri-La s should be quite good, but quite spendy. There are a number of seafood places near Rasa Ria which would require a taxi to reach. The conceirges should be able to recommend.

Tanjung Aru - sorry, thought the "STAR" abbreviation was the way to show this.
Oh, whilst I think about it - getting from the airport to hotel - just grab a cab outside the airport? MYR130 for a limo seems a bit excessive...

I actually did a google search trying to figure out what you meant by "STAR". You were too clever for your own good.
Since the resort is a mere 5-10 minutes ride from the airport, you would be naive to spend 130 RM for a limo. Taxis are comparatively expensive (for Malaysia) in KK, but last year cost about 25 RM from airport to town. Probably pretty much the same to the resort which is between airport and town.
