Anyone had the experience as a tourist.

Usually my wife and I will look for a hotel within walking distance of a schul and try to arrange shabbat dinner with a family. Where possible we host the seudat shlishi at the synagogue if there is one. I would like to make this type of arrangement if anyone can make a suggestion. I read the web sites, but first hand experience and/or a recommendation is always best.

Also, I notice there are 2 Chabads in Amsterdam. Any insight into this? We've had really good luck with this type of arrangement with them in the past.

BTW, I'm fluent in hebrew which bailed me out in Geneva last year.

Last year we stayed at the Delphi Hotel
Address: Apollolaan 105
Telephone: (31-20) 6795152

The nearest shul is at Heinzestraat 1-3 / corner Jacob Obrechtplein (Museum Quarter). We were invited for Shabbat dinner with the rabbi which was great.

Hi,

I had a business trip that kept me until Friday afternoon in Amsterdam. I stayed with an amazing family who operate an in-home guest house, and had an unforgetable Shabbos. It's a Vishnitz Chassid, who is extremely welcoming and accomodating (especially to more modern people).

You will feel more like a house guest, but rooms have ensuite bathroom and a dedicated guest kitchen area.

Send me a PM if you want details.

Regards,
Yossi..

Depending on how tight you are with timing, you might as well want to go to Antwerp for shabbat. At least 2 trains per hour (direct, no need to connect anywhere).

With the Thalys, it takes about 01:12, and regular train is 2h.

There is a new website that puts up people together for Shabat, basically it is families that are looking for shabat guests and guests looking for places to spend shabat, I tried this website and its really, really awesome! try it: Shabat.com (http://www.shabbat.com/home.aspx)

welcome to FT, if you indeed find such people that are willing to take people in during the week , they are Very Special people! I can understand people taking people in over Shabbos since most Hotels arent anywhere near the Religious community and no way to get back & forth for Davening and Meals.

But during the week when all modes of transport are avaialble = being able to stay in any hotel anywhere if aperson will take people in they are truly Special people, I know I wouldnt unless it was Shabbos or Yom Tov

can I ask you how open would you be if I was going to be in your city tonight, would you open your home to me when there are tons of Hotels all around? Ive stayed by many people I didnt know but that was due to wanting to be @ shul for Shabbos and no kosher places open on Shabbos where I could eat. eg I dont know of a single restaurant that is open on Shabbos (prepay) in all of Brooklyn and there are tons of restaurants
