Wyndham Rewards (formerly TripRewards) - Super 8 vs. Days Inn
I'm looking to book a hotel for a weekend, for hunting. Unfortunately the only two options that allow pets are a Super 8 and a Days Inn. The costs of each are within $5 of each other, but the Super 8 has a whirlpool tub in the room. Is the quality similar enough that it's worth booking the whirlpool room at the Super 8, rather than a regular room at the Days Inn?

I travel with pets often and I have stayed at a brand new Super 8 that was as nice as a brand new Mariott hotel. I have also stayed at several Days Inn hotels that were "newly remodeled" but still old and musty. The bedspreads and carpet were new but the bathroom was still old and the walls still smelled musty. I recommend calling each hotel and finding out the date the hotel was remodeled and built; also, if you have a large dog (I have a lab) find out how much grassy area is around the hotel and if the area is safe for walking your pet. Super 8s and Days Inn tend to be near an interstate... I stayed at the Days Inn, 2889 Austin Peay Highway, Memphis, TN 38128 and will never stay there ageain. The hotel had a security guard, part of the hotel faced the interstate, and the grassy area was so small that we spent most of our time in the paved parking lot but then again, at least the security guard followed us outside just incase something happened. This Days Inn was an older hotel but newly remodeled so I recommend finding out when the hotel was built, remodeled, and if there is anything nearby, etc.. Good luck! I know it's not easy traveling with a four-legged loved one.
Thanks! I'll call and find out about the area for walking a dog, since she's part husky part lab. :)
We travel with our Malinois frequently for dog agility trials and the choices frequently are limited to Super 8 vs. Days Inn (or other Cendant brand). True that the Days Inns are often older, but for this reason the construction seems more sturdy and the rooms quieter. The Super 8s we have stayed at have been newer, but the walls have been paper thin and it has been difficult to get a good nights sleep (especially when traveling with the dog). True that you can encounter musty bathrooms, etc. at the Days Inn brand; the best course may be to check on TripAdvisor or other travel web site to try to get a sense of the Super 8 and Days Inn you are contemplating staying at.
Happy hunting!
Based on the reviews, it looks like the Super 8 wins... the reviews on the Days Inn ran basically from, "If you have no expectations..." to "It's a DUMP," to "Unbelievably disgusting."
I would never stay at any Wyndham Rewards hotel without checking Tripadvisor. We had a free BRG and actually didn't use it - I wasn't expecting bad and for one night I can put up with quite a bit, but it was disgusting. That was a Days Inn, BTW. More than once I've passed on a free room because every review was horrible.
I've stayed at good and bad for each of the WR chains.

Stayed in my first & last Super 8 a month ago in Idaho. Checked in and asked for the top floor end room and the frumpy clerk looked at me like I was from another planet.
Walls are made of a thin material, about as thick as bedsheets. When the person 2 doors down sneezed, I said bless you and someone from another room down the hall brought them a klennex.
Old furnishings including a mattress Pres Truman slept on. They allow pets, how do I know? As I was walking down the hall I saw the dog & it's owner. Owner leaning against the wall, dog peeing on the wall.
No amount of points or cheap rates will get me in a Super 8 again. I would rather sleep in my car.

Both can be really hit or miss. As others have suggested, check tripadvisor.com and use that to help.
Good Super 8s are great. Bad ones are awful. Days Inn seems to be a little more mediocre, but pretty irregular.
