Sorry if this has been answered before, but does anyone know whether the Airbus 330 planes to Perth and other Australian cities - which had a very sub-standard regional configuration when I flew them earlier this year - have been upgraded? I am planning my travel for next year and will not use CX until that is changed.

I think some of the old 3-class airbuses are now on the regional routes. If your flight offers F class, then it is the previous long haul business class.

I flew CX103 HKG-BNE last friday, and it was the old regional style A333 (reclining chairs with very limited pitch) in J.

I won't be flying that one again in a hurry.:td:

Thanks for that. While it remains uncertain I will stick to other carriers out of PER. Those regional planes are just not good enough for a 7 hour flight, especially when paying a premium fare. :td:

I agree. What do other airlines offer out of PER? I understand a reason why CX didn't put long haul product on this route was lack of product competition in the past?

Couldn't agree more. Of what I think of as the big 3 carriers out of BNE (QF, CX and SQ), only QF has a decent J offering, with their Skyslopes.
CX and SQ have only their old regional style reclining chairs, which as you say is pretty awful for a 7 or 8 hour flight, mostly overnight.

SQ is the cheapest, so may be excused for the poor cabins, but CX are generally $1000 more expensive than QF, for a poorer cabin!

Just saw that there's a new regional business class. Any insight when that will be available on BNE-HKG or vice versa ?

Just saw that there's a new regional business class.I think you've misunderstood. There are two variants of "regional business class". One is very old (mechanically reclining "cradle" seats, and one is just old (electrical recline, but less comfortable and ugly). The refurbishment was stopped halfway through because of financial constraints during SARS and overwhelming feedback from customers that it was a backwards step. So "new" business class is at least 5 years old; "old" business class must be at least 10 years now. They are mixed randomly on the regionallly-equipped aircraft (i.e. the 777-300s (not the ERs), the 777-200s (which are going to the desert soon if they haven't already), and the two class regional A330s (i.e. the 330, not the 33B or 333).

Those "new" regional business class seat only installed on those aircraft joined the fleet after 2003.(Some 330 & 773)
For the BNE service, CX schedule show 34D and 333 on the timetable.(Equipped with old lie-flat seat) But we all know CX famous last mins equipment change, so don't be surprise if you find a 330(regional seat) operating your flight!
The following page has the detail about which aircraft with the "new" regional seat also the progress of the new long haul product. http://flyerguide.com/wiki/index.php/Fleet_Info_(CX)

Just took PER - HKG in J. Was fully expecting the regional J class, was very pleasently surprised to get a three class A330. Was pre allocated 15a/c but asked the CX supervisor to change into first class seats, few taps of the keyboard later we got the middle seats in row 2. The CX supervisor said the 3 class comes into PER a few times a week, on other occassions its the new J class.
