Cathay Pacific Asia Miles - Companion ticket awards booking class?

Hi all,

After a long time lurking I'm new posting here, and I hope this isn't a FAQ. I was wondering if any of you know what booking class companion tickets are booked from? The big question is really: are they subject to the same quotas as "regular" awards (e.g. booking class U) or is it possible to get such a ticket as long as there are seats available on the flight (or in the same booking class as the paid ticket)?

The CX website doesn't allow to check for availability for companion tickets unless I already have a paid ticket booked, and communication with the CX helpline was a bit difficult (they seemed to say it's the first option rather than the second, but I wouldn't swear it).

Thanks,

Jacques.

Hi Jacques,

First of all welcome to Flyertalk. Hope you will find the forum informative.
I have done a companion redemption booking recently and the e-ticket issued is U class (biz).

Depending on your level with MPC, they will try their best to confirm in the class of your choice (I am DM). The flight was showing no availability for redemption but I got my companion ticket. One of the many reasons that I love being DM.

All U Class awards come from the same inventory. However, companion awards have the highest priority. i.e. If there is a U Class seat, it may be available as a companion award but not as an full award.

...or is it possible to get such a ticket as long as there are seats available on the flight (or in the same booking class as the paid ticket)?
Simple answer, no.
