This can't be done, correct? I am not a Marco Polo member and booked a CX ticket via a travel agent, and will be earning miles in AA's AAdvantage program.

I find CX to be an excellent airline, one of the best, but their website is lagging most other leading airlines in their booking and manage-my-booking functions. Although fsuch unctionalities are already below par for MPC, they are mediocre for non-MPC. They should realize that HK is an international hub and that many CX pax are not MPC. Such a functionality is not a "perk" for MPC, it only reflects the current below-par level of their website and IT. I know that this comment will attract a flurry of angry responses from CX loyals, but I believe that I have good experience with CX & other airlines (I do my own travel management, mostly online). hemz88 Nov 26, 08, 12:40 am Never been able to do it. I agree with you. I occasionally book on line and I never successfully book anything on CX Holidays. In addition, when they add some features on the web page, they seem to mess up others. On OP, only MPC members can view our CX itineraries on web, but still we cannot "manage" our itineraries, e.g. we cannot change our seat assignments. The best is to get the TA to send you the link to your reservation so you can see it. UnitedSkies Nov 26, 08, 1:45 am Thanks for the confirmation and advice! sxc Nov 26, 08, 1:47 am In a way I like the fact that CX is not that good at self service, but they will bend over backwards if you call them. For example, if CX goes down the route of BA, you will have a very limited seat selection available to you, and because people will be able to do things themselves, it increases chances of families / couples not being seated together, or being forced into middle seats etc. The more control you give passengers, the more likely that selfish behaviour will affect your seating selection. Same as LX as they have the same fault in their booking system that they show you only bookings that you made online  brunos Nov 26, 08, 4:51 am In a way I like the fact that CX is not that good at self service, but they will bend over backwards if you call them. Sorry, but I respectfully disagree. I like BA seating policy that gives prriority to elite pax. Someone has to sit in the bad seats and the question is who. On BA, these seats are reserved to full-fare and OW Emerald as they cannot be preassigned to award and discounted-fare pax who tend to book early. On many airlines most best seats are gone when a biz pax books a few days before the flight. Anyway in premium cabin any ticket holder can preaasign seats, even if the best ones are reserved as mentioned above (first row of F and upper deck of C). I understand that some prefer the old technology of calling, but CX line to non MPC is so busy that wait can be atrociously long (hours). So convenient to be able to change seat in 1 min on BA or AF website. It is so useful to be able to periodically check (in a minute) if good seats have ben freed and grab them. On BA you can see all segments of a multiple itinerary with only one BA segment (just needs to enter the booking reference, no need to be a BAEC member). For example I have a AONE next week sold by CX office and originating in HKG. But I can only check my itinerary on BA. Some airlines are linked to amadeus check-my-trip, so itinerary can easily be checked: but I am not aware of a system for CX. On CX you cant even see your booking if you made it on CX website or bought it at CX office. And even MPC cannot manage booking online (change flight, chamge seat); which is so usefull for reional flights. sarcar Nov 28, 08, 8:55 pm If not a member of the marco polo club then the only other way to see your booking online is if you are also with Asia Miles. I have an AA award ticket--there's no way that such a ticket could have been booked on CX Bayako Dec 22, 08, 5:38 pm I booked my return flight via a TA with CX and their advance seat selection is 180 days. My flight will be for July 7 @ 0255 AM. Which date will I be able to do my seat selection? Since I book my flights via a TA, do I have to go through my TA but then for sure they are not going to get up at 2 AM. If not, what can I do? Thanks for all your help. Bayako kaka Jan 6, 09, 7:46 am since this is being brought up- maybe i'm nortoriously dumb, but when i last booked my BA award flight using AM, i could not do OLCI in the ba.com site because the PNR for CX and BA are not compatible- is there a way i can do this? (or is it simply a no?)- Besides, noone managed to tell me there are some BA flights that do not depart from T5!??! zhaobao Jan 8, 09, 12:08 am This can't be done, correct? I am not a Marco Polo member and booked a CX ticket via a travel agent, and will be earning miles in AA's AAdvantage program. One way is to ask the travel agent to add your Marco Polo number to the reservation and you will be able to view it online. Then at checkin (at the airport or online), swap the Marco Polo number with your AA number instead. zhaobao Jan 8, 09, 12:11 am since this is being brought up- maybe i'm nortoriously dumb, but when i last booked my BA award flight using AM, i could not do OLCI in the ba.com site because the PNR for CX and BA are not compatible- is there a way i can do this? Now I know it was not a user problem not finding the way through CX and LX websites. dm101 Feb 10, 09, 3:41 am I didn't want to start a new thread, so hopefully somebody will see this + give some useful advice. :) First longhaul trip with CX booked (via TA), and I can see the booking on the Cathay website (through; retrieve your booking). But I can't figure out how to switch seats. Both my wife and I are MC Silver, so from what I have read on the CX website, we should be able to pre-assign our seats. But perhaps this isn't possible to do online, like on JAL? So far we have "only" done a lot of PVG-HKG trips, and then we haven't really cared about the seat assignment. But now when we have booked the first longhaul (after leaving AF/KLM - who clearly don't understand how to run a FF-program anymore!) we thought it could be nice to see if we could get 2 decent seats. Many thanks in advance. EDIT# Sorry, but of course I should have read the EXCELLENT! CX FAQ thread first, where this is clearly stated; (I'll put in here as well if anybody else was wondering) 10.1 How do I view my CX itinerary online? You can only retrieve your itinerary if you are a Marco Polo or Asia Miles member whose membership number has been supplied with your itinerary at time of booking. Even then you are only able to view information and cannot make, for example, online seat selections. The best way to change a booking or make seat selections is to call your local Cathay Pacific office, or if you are a Marco Polo club member to ring the toll-free international hotline. Generally ringing outside of Hong Kong business hours will minimise the waiting time. Please note that advance seat reservation only opens 180 days out from the date of the flight. So I guess there's no way to do it... henkybaby Mar 31, 09, 3:25 am Trying to confirm seats and got the message from CX reservations that they are closed! So I guess there's no way to do it... Yes there is. Call HKG or an office in a country that is still open. If seats matter so much to you, you should be willing to spend a little time, effort and money. Still very much 'last century stuff' this and CX could learn from BA here. |
