Hi All,

Looking to book a trip to Vietnam from London, but it appears that on the return the connection time between my Dragonair flight from HAN, and the onward LHR flight is only 50 minutes. Is this realistic, and if I do miss it, as a OneWorld Emerald, can I expect to be reasonably looked after by CX?

Cheers,

Chris.

Yes, and yes. Welcome to a place where the airport actually works efficiently.

50 min is minimum connection time between CX/KA and CX/KA.

Plus there is a later flight to London anyways, so no problem at all.

note- your bags may not always be in the hold in time tho... had it twice for me. but always they send it to your place in london...

Thanks guys. I guess I am too used to bureaucratic European airports :o

Not particularly worried if my hold luggage is a day or two late for the return, so I'll go with this, since the alternative of actually booking the later flight is over £1500 more expensive!

Cheers,

Chris.

You'll have no problem at all - with a 50min connection I usually have at least 20 minutes of kicking my heels at the next gate. HKG is a dream to connect at!

I had a 50-min connection in HKG this summer. I was surprised that my bags made it to final destination on the same flight even though the inbound flight was 15 min late.
The only problem I had the long queue at the security. With only 20 min to get the gate, I asked the security officer to let us move to the front. She said that was only possible if a CX staff made the request. Found a CX staff to assist and I got to the gate in the nick of time.

If you have your onward boarding pass (as you probably will coming in on KA) then consider looking for the transit security points other than the main ones near immigration, particularly if you come in on a high gate number.

Good point - I presume both me and my baggage will be through-checked?

I missed alot of connections doing the 50 minute thing... Once when there was weather delay in PVG and 2-3 times doing transpacific sector, when you are again, at mercy of weather.
