Women Travelers - Woman going to India alone on business

Hi FYers,

Like you all, I'm the terminal road warrior and have no problem travelling most of the world on my own. In January I'm going to Bangalore to meet with my team there (I know most of them from their visits to the US). I know I'll stand out with my white face, but as a middle-aged-{slightly}-overweight-mother-of-3, I think I might not have to worry about some of the things the younger/beautiful generation might.

Any words of wisdom or books/articles you can recommend for a woman going on her own there?

Thanks!

Hi there. I did some work in Bangalore a few months ago. To be honest I felt totally safe - unlike some of the other Europena and non-European destinations I've travelled in. I found people to be very respectful. Naturally, you should take all the usual precautions, but really, overall I felt that I had no concerns over being a single woman there.

I've done it too - in Mumbai, and rural Nashik. I was definitely a curiosity (people pointed and stared everywhere I went, being blonde does not help) but it was not hostile and I never felt threatened or unsafe. I was skeptical (scared actually) but was very pleasantly surprised that as previously mentioned, people were respectful and I had no concerns. The usual precautions are fine.

In light of current events, I pray the OP isn't in Mumbai now!
