Would like some ideas of other elite member experiences of this program. Having a had a few hotel stays as a Silver Elite level member I am not impressed. Silver recognition has been pretty much non-existent also my points regularly don't post so I have to request them through the website. I am also a Platinum Starwood member and maybe it is not appropriate to compare the two programs (and Platinum against Silver level) but with Starwood I generally receive very generous upgrades to nice suites, at Goldpoints plus I notice no recognition at all. Would be interested in other peoples experiences.

I have no experience in any properties outside Europe, earlier this year I becames silver and not so long ago gold, at all locations I've stayed at since receiving silver I have been upgraded to a business class room, free breakfast and movies and late checkout, the one exception was the Radisson SAS Charles de Gaulle which is a dump and I will never stay there again. I live in Norway so Radissons are common hotels in Scandinavia and so far have been excellent with recognition of my status.
I also received a free 12 month subscription to the economist from Goldpoints Plus, so I'm happy, plus they are very good at giving double points by mistake.

Hello,
I'm gold with goldpointsplus program. In Europe, I've been upgraded once. At least, in Europe I managed to enjoy some benefits like the daily free laundry item.
In US, no recongnition at all.
You really need lot of points to redeem free hotels nights.
Honnestly, this programm is very poor (especially if I compare it to Hilton Honors and Starwood where I also have the top-tiers level). It is a shame, as the Radisson are very top quality in nothern Europe.

Let's put it this way - I'm focusing the rest of the year on Choice, Hilton, and Hyatt, and I've defended GoldpointsPlus on this forum. In fact, I just redeemed all my points for airline miles, given the best hotel awards have been the Points+Cash . . .

Speaking of redemption - the heavily discussed Delta promo may be a good candidate...

can you explain the dl promo more? I don't read DL much

That's precisely where my previous GoldPoints balance went - when the choice comes down to essentially one night hotel or a domestic RT . . . I wouldn't have transferred under any other scenario / into another program.
EDIT: And Delta has taken the promotion down.

Goldpoints never post automatically. I always have to chase them.

What I have found is when you chase them and they add the points I often find that the hotel then adds the points so you get double points.

I have never had to chase GoldPoints for hotel stays - the original GoldPoints program (where was more like a mileage mall) was a different story; I was forever faxing in receipts . . .

Am I right in stating that you won't get points if booked through a travel site such as Expedia?
I gave my GP number at check in but didn't receive anything (still have just the 1,000 points for registering online).
I much prefer these hotels to the other IHCG ones I stay in for work. Trouble is that I don't get too many opportunities to stay in them. Is there any fast track to elite status for me in the UK?

I don't see what harm there is in trying to claim the missing points. You can do it online.

Cheers. Apparently I don't qualify as this was booked through a travel supermarket. Amazing, still I mustn't grumble as had the best service I've enjoyed from a hotel in a long time.
As it'll be tough to move up the status ladder I won't make that much fuss - nice stay in Manchester coming up though but already have late check out etc. as part of the package.
Never mind. I'll enjoy them for the treats that they are.

I have silver status and travel to Norway once a month. however, so far no recognition of the status at all. And no point is credited automatically.:(

What locations have you been staying at? I mainly stay in Oslo at Gardermoen and have been upgraded everytime I was silver, I even get the same room most stays. I've also stayed in Trondheim, Lillehamar and Stavanger, all stays received an upgrade. The only locations in Europe where I haven't been upgraded were Paris Charles de Gaulle, a terrible hotel which I will not return to and in Hamburg, the Hamburg reception staff appologised for not being able to give me an upgrade, the hotel was fully booked for a trade show, otherwise they would have upgraded me.
As for points it normally takes about 2 weeks for them to appear, if they don't credited by then I send of a missing points claim. Quite often the goldpoints people ad the missing points then the hotel also ads them so you get double. I've pointed this out twice, both times they have thanked me for my honesty and let me keep them.

I stayed a lot at European Radisson SAS hotels before moving to Chicago and was Gold myself. To say that you get upgraded most of the times is wrong.
Radisson SAS at OSL is probably the best hotel in the chain when it comes to recognition.
Here's a list over a few hotels I stayed a lot at:
Radisson SAS TOS: Upgraded 10% of the times. Claiming they upgrade GPG or EBG only to bigger rooms, not Business Class. Wrote to the managing director, he agreed...
Radisson SAS BOO: Upgraded 90% of the times, not because of status only, I stayed there probably 30-40 times a year from 2000-2005
Radisson SAS Royal Viking, Stockholm: Upgraded 10% of the times. No recognition.
Radisson SAS Sky City, ARN: Never upgraded
Radisson SAS Arlandia, ARN: Upgraded once, usually they put me in the basement due to the cheap corporate rate we had there. Was EBG AND GPG then..
Radisson SAS Portman in London. Upgraded every time till 2003 due to RVC/EBG. After 2003 (before the Goldpoints program started) not a single upgrade. Not going back there..
Radisson SAS Royal Garden TRD. Never an upgrade till I leaned on the GM threatening to move hotels in Trondheim. Got business class room about 50% after my complaint, suite once....
Radisson SAS Stavanger: No upgrades
Radisson SAS AES: Upgraded once on a Saturday in the winter
Radisson SAS Hotel Norge: 50/50 on upgrades here. Got the Presidential Suite once, but it was because the hotel was sold out and I was the last to check in that night.
Radisson SAS Caledonien, KRS.. 30% upgrades.
Compared to Starwood and Hyatt where I have top tier level now, GPG and EBG is pretty much worthless in my book

For my personnal experience, I mainly stayed at the Radisson Carlton Hotel in Bratislava, Slovakia. This is a nice hotel. I had more than 100 nights. I got upgraded once.
It is a shame, as in Europe, at the locations where I stayed, the Radisson properties are very nice on my opinion.

Going back to the original thread - I have to say this programme is a billion years behind (eg.) HHonors.
The hotels are lovely, so it's a shame the loyalty programme is so poor.
I don't have status but have a lot of points. Not that it's easy to inspect your points total! Indeed, just trying to access my GP account details, whether via the Radisson or the Goldpoints websites, is tedious in the extreme.
I have tried many times to redeem points against hotels (mainly Europe). Success rate has been 0%. Either the hotels in question were unavailable, or the website fell over and asked me to try later.
Also I get zilch communication of any kind from them.
In summary - zero out of ten.

I still think that their 4 for 2 and 2for1 offer is the single benefit that makes it all worth while. In 2008 on my personal travel this saved me around £1400 hard cash.

second that ^
Also In regards to upgrades I usually ask at check-in. Either they already upgraded or do it then. 100% success so far. (in Europe)
