Just want to verify... reading the new Asiana club brochure many times... I can't find a clear black and white answer...

I want to find out if flying first or business class will give you bonus elite qualifying miles? Or the EQM is based on the actual miles you fly regardless of class of service?

Thanks,
Carfield

Asiana Club does not explicitly differentiate EQM/RDM. Rather, they count only flown miles, either with OZ or *A, as EQM and everything else count only towards RDM. So any extra mileage you get from your status will only count as RDM, AFAIK.

So am I correct to assume that flying first or business class will not help me to advance to a higher elite status quicker?

Thanks for the quick response!

You are incorrect.

Class of service bonus will count towards elite status. In other words you will get 125% for business and 150% for first. So yes, flying in first or business will speed up your quest for Diamond Plus and Platinum.

However, what doesn't count towards status is the elite bonus for OZ metal flights.

Wow, what a relief!

Thanks and I assume Star Alliance partners are included in the list to reach the elite status. I know you cannot count Star Alliance segments, but miles are okay.

I am evaluating which Star Alliance partner will I use if bmi diamond club becomes LH miles and miles, or switch to a similar system like miles and miles!

Thanks,
Carfield

BMI is a great program if you fly premium cabins. If bmi DC becomes M&M then the next best program for people who fly premium cabins is most probably M&M.
OZ has a shocking earn/burn ratio and only good if you are
- after lifetime status
- after easy status
- fly OZ

BTW, M&M stands for Miles & More, not Miles & Miles.

Yes, I agree that Miles & More will be better in some aspects...

But I am going after a lifetime status... it will be great to get lifetime gold status... (bmi dc is actually very great... 10 years of old = lifetime)...

Yes, it is one of the easiest to maintain gold status as well... the extra baggage allowance is great.

I issue many one way awards... so it is another benefit (despite only on OZ award flights)...

It is so hard to predict what will happen to BD? But for now, I am just researching my options... I have a March OZ flight coming up, so hopefully I can find out more about the future of bmi program by then.

I'm pretty much in the same boat as CarField.

Redemption is not the end of the world to me (to be honest, I'm sitting on a stack of miles that have to be burned), but status and access to *G (when I hit it) will be more important - if for the little things like 3rd bag allowance (something when I'm playing photographer and I need to lug a studio round the rock with me) and lounge access (If you've lugged round a 50lb rucksack, 40lb of supports and the standard 2 bags - you'd understand).

As I fly in Y mostly (and then mostly discount buckets), M&M would hurt a lot for me (I barely do 40k a year as it is and by that thought, if I was comped to SEN have 2 years of LH*G, then 2 years of LH*S - which would be fine except I can't get the LH booking engine to spit out nice and reasonably priced high mileage yielding fares)

So OZ is looking like where I'll be resting my hat once the dust settles and we find out the transition period - if anything it'll raise a few eyebrows when the card is used :D.
