Wonderful! Food pretty good, nice bed/seat in Business class, fabulous flight attendants. So young, beautiful, well groomed, and service oriented. They even cleaned the bathroom after every use!! That stunned me. We usually fly United. Try to feature a UA FA cleaning the bathroom. Ever. This was our first time flying with this airline.
We tried the Bim Bam (whatever...) and it was pretty good but the only Korean dish they seem to serve. That was lunch out of SFO, followed by sandwich snack, then nice breakfast. Out of Korea, AFTER 8 pm (again, try to imagine United feeding you after 8 pm), we each had a Western meal. The monkfish (with a calorie count of 800 plus - this I had to see) was heavily breaded and covered with a lot of sweet and sour goo. Dead, limp bok choy. Bad dinner. My husband did not eat any of it. I had the filet mignon which appeared to me in its glorious raw state, not medium rare. Sent it back TWICE until they got it right. Meat was very tender and delicious. Served with potatoes, baby carrots and green beans.
Some of you were debating how the meal is served. First you get a tray with the appetizer (everyone gets the same), the salad (baby greens with small tomatoes and cucumber slices and uninspired dressing), and a plate for bread. Breads are really nice, also hot. After you finish your appetizer, they remove the plate, keep the tray, and serve the main course in a small dish. Dishes are white Rosethal in a very modern design. Very appealing. Then, they take the tray. Next course is fruit and cheese with crackers or some kind of bread with seed, nuts or ?? Too much food. Last a very small dessert. From SFO, it was a bite sized fruit and custard tart, from Korea, a small pumpkin tart! Thanksgiving coming...
All in all, the service was so incredible, it made up for the food being only fair. The seat/bed was not as flat as I had hoped. We will test UA's business class bed out of Sydney going to SFO in Dec. The biggest problem, which led to a certain amount of hilarity, was that the keypad for the seat was on the arm rest, but a little lower. My husband and I would inadvertently hit it with our elbows, and AWAY WE WENT: UP, DOWN, etc! No notice, just suddenly the seat would shift. Just funny except when the food tray was out and we nearly lost our dinner to the floor! Altogether a nice adventure. I would not hesitate to fly with them again.
