I just found out that our 11/29/08 KE 652 flight (BKK-ICN) was cancelled outright, and KE took it upon themselves to place us on their 10/30/08 KE 654 flight to ICN.
I am shocked to see that KE moved us to the later flight, which would give us a tight connection (1H:20M - legal but a little close...) without even asking us!
Has this happened to you before?
Does the earlier BKK-ICN flight (654) get cancelled every now and then???
Is there anything I can do about this (get KE to accomodate me on Thai's or OZ's evening flights to ICN? Not sure whether KE would do this, since it's a DL award ticket...)

Did they give you a time machine to catch the new flight with? :D:D

An hour and twenty minutes is more than enough time to connect at ICN. You will deplane and then clear security near the transfer area. Then you'll walk upstairs to the departure gates.
You won't be placed on the OZ or TG flight by, unless you elect to pay for the change.
What is your complaint? You'll have a few more hours in BKK, than after you make your connection at ICN, you'll make it to your final destination at the time originally scheduled.
Don't worry about this minor change, enjoy the flight.

Having the airline delay your flight by a day and not even giving you the courtesy of letting you know is a minor change to you?

Apparently, this is NOT a delay by A DAY, but by three hours. Anyhow you still get to the final destination somewhere in the U.S. on time.
Shocked? I guess it's far more prevalent on DL or NW, and they do not have to ask as long as you get to the final destination as scheduled. Also, your connecting time is still more than the MCT at ICN, which is one hour.
Would they transfer you to TG or OZ? LOL! Hardly. You got a dirt cheap DL AWARD ticket, not a full fare paid ticket. Remind that things like this can happen with an award ticket in case of flight cancellation. http://www.airliners.net/aviation-forums/trip_reports/read.main/133561/ (do CTRL+F and type "award") Most of all, you will get to the final destination as ticketed and it's not that you have to leave the origin earlier than ticketed either.
LASTLY, IT'S ALWAYS TICKET ISSUER'S RESPONSIBILITY TO LET PAX KNOW ANY SCHEDULE CHANGE FOR ANY AIR CARRIER. In this case, it was DL not KE who had to inform you about the schedule change. If it was issued by a travel agency, then it's travel agency's responsibility to inform any schedule change. Air carriers sometimes inform schedule change to all pax, but they are not obligated to do so by any mean unless ticket was issued by themselves.
Happed to me a few times on UA/AA and learned through experiences. In this case you did not have to depart from the origin earlier than scheduled or arrive at the destination later than scheduled, so you're in a good shape.

Ah, my bad, I just looked at the dates posted by the OP. Note to self, look at details.:p

I'm guessing you're connecting to KE093, as I have the same 1:20 connection time from KE654. That should be plenty of time to connect, including clearing security, as the gates for those flights are usually fairly close to one another. No time for dawdling in the terminal, though.

No, connecting to KE35 to ATL.
I'm flying on two separate tickets, (intra-Asia award, then a revenue ticket ICN-US), so in case the BKK flight is delayed significantly, I may run into a problem...
My only issue was that I wasn't told about this change, nor was I given other options. Either way, I'll take the later flight and just skip some quality time at the KE lounge (incidentally, that's exactly where I am right now!)

I've been on a late-arriving KE 654 and connected to KE 35 to ATL. Had time to dash into Korea by clearing inbound immigration, then go back airside by clearing security and outbound immigration, then stopped by the lounge for a light bite, and out to the gate. All in under an hour. That said, I was on a single ticket.

Not KE, but DL took it upon themselves to place you on the other flight. Also, DL was the one who was supposed to ask you what to do when the ticket was cancelled because your flight was booked and ticketed by DL. KE does not have the right to change DL tickets.

Again, your blame should go to DL. KE cannot change reservation nor modify award tickets issued by DL. It was DL who placed you on the other flight. If you don't like it, you should contact DL to find out what to do. But then, given that KE has only that one flight from BKK to ICN, I doubt if there is any option that DL can give you other than cancelling it. You should ask DL if you're unhappy with it though.
Just make sure to inform KE staffs at BKK that you have a connecting flight to catch at ICN.
Lastly, you're not in a bad situation considering it was an award ticket. DL could have just cancelled it and redeposited miles in your account without even telling you. Or even worse case which was shown in that airliners.net site.
