Travel Technology - blackberry pearl has problem scrolling down

My trackball on my blackberry pearl has problems scrolling down.

I was hoping to keep my phone alive for a few more months...your suggestions would be appreciated.

Try (with a nonsolvent solution) to get the "Grit" out from behind the ball. This is what I did.

That, and spin it repeatedly and hard/fast for about 5 minutes.

I had a friend who took his to the beach and got a tiny spec of sand stuck in it and he had to clean it out for it to work again. My guess is that there is just some gunk behind it.

New ball is $14 or so. I replace mine every few months.

Happens to me about once per month. I typically push the ball in and rotate in random directions, then spray with canned air. Works every time.
