Wyndham Rewards - How many joined Wyndham Rewards for the crazy Super 8 promo?

Remember the $8.88 Super 8 anniversary promotion?

My sense is that Wyndham Rewards garnered thousands of new members - even if relatively few of us got the promo rate - because of the advantage it gave by quickly populating our competing reservation entry.

Did you join for it?

And, if there are Wyndham people here (OK, OK...) does anyone have a feel for how fruitful this was for Wyndham Rewards?

I did not, I had already been a member of TripRewards. But, I signed my wife up to try to double our chances of snagging a room for $8.88.

I did... and then didn't even bother trying to get the promotion.
Even though they don't have status levels and the hotels aren't luxury or anything, I've had 100% success this year with getting free upgrades to suites from regular rooms... never asked either, just show up in a suit from working all day and boom "Sir, I'm moving you up to a complementary suite if that is alright with you?" I think it must just be coincidence, but I like that kind of coincidence.
