I just received the following e-mail from "Vegas Insider":

Hello from Insider Viewpoint of Las Vegas.

The reason for this special email newsletter is to inform,
not scare, people about a recent serious health problem
that has occurred in Las Vegas at one of the popular
hotels.

This is a public service announcement from Insider
Viewpoint of Las Vegas. This is not designed to scare
anyone, just to inform.

The Southern Nevada Health District has posted a letter in
response to two persons who were diagnosed with
Legionnaires disease who stayed at the Polo Towers in
Las Vegas during August and September of 2008.

If you are going to visit Polo Towers in Las Vegas in the
near future, visited Polo Towers in Las Vegas in the past
14 days or visited in the past two years and have been
diagnosed with Legionnaires disease, please click on the
link below and read more information from the Southern
Nevada Health District.

Interesting. I'd be less surprised if it occurred at the Jockey Club. What a dump.

Since when is the Polo Towers "one of the popular hotels" in Las Vegas?

It does kind of call into question the insideness of the "Insider Viewpoint," doesn't it? Looks like marketing to me.

Legionnaires in the water presents a serious marketing challenge for a hotel. I suggest the following slogan to the Polo Towers: Polo Towers -- action so hot you won't mind the Legionnaires! Another possibility: when staff is asked about this, say, "Legionellosis? Isn't that the name of the club floor at Caesar's?"

Polo Towers was a WN crew hotel ... maybe 15 years ago. This isn't the 1st time it's had problems with Legionnaire's Disease.

I went to Sam's Club and they were advertising a Sam's exclusive offer to Polo Towers now thru 12/31/2009 3days/2nights for $149ish w/$100 MC or 2 night flights helicopter rides. The certificate itself has no restrictions or any indication that you have to attend their timeshare seminar and no obligation to purchase anything. This Sam's exclusive offer is from Diamond Resorts.

I'm familiar with timeshare tactics but not familiar with this new Sam's exclusive offer.

Polo Towers just renovated their resort and I'm thinking of taking advantage of this offer later in 2009. Hopefully, this disease will be gone by then.

What da ya think?

I rate the Polo Towers about equal to the Imperial Palace and Legionnaires Disease is probably medically far secondary to the other far more violent viruses and bacteria lurking in these armpit hotels.
