At the moderator's suggestion, I am starting a new thread for this property. They have revised the opening date from Nov. to December 11th 2008, and I have found bookable rates for $85 from Dec.11 onward.
There is a trick to it: If you search on SPG for hotels near ONT for December, the new FP will be at the bottom of the page as unavailable for the dates selected. If you then click on the property name, it should take you to this page http://www.starwoodhotels.com/preferredguest/property/overview/index.html?propertyID=1739 which again says unavailable.
Hit the "Book Now" button, and in the fly-out menu enter an arrival date of Dec. 11th or later. Click "Continue" and then sort price low-high. You will get rates from $85 with a one-night before check-in canx policy.
I have reservation confirmations, and the stays appear in "My Stays". No guarantee they will open on time, but If they do, you get to be there for the grand opening. If they don't, I suspect they will compensate you for having a reservation they had to cancel.
I will be there on the 11th if they do open, so think " The FPRC DO I" and I'll work on booking Haandi Indian Cuisine or Lucille's BBQ for the DO.
As this could become a "Master Thread" once the FP opens, lets strive to keep this thread on-topic and save the mods some work- I'll try, too!
