Does not look like any SPG property is a partner with the Winter Carnival. Does anyone who is familiar with Quebec City and/or the Winter Carnival know if any of the SPG properties are conveniently located for the festivities and to the Old City? Winter Carnival is Jan 30-Feb 15 2009 this year, we are thinking of going.

Have you done a search on the Starwood site? If you do, you'll see a a Sheraton Four Points... but everything else listed on the website is not in Quebec City!

Best hotel is of course the Chateau Frontenac, though not a Starwood.

I have been using the mapping feature discussed in this thread http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=663933 with great success- it even shows future (proposed) SPG properties. It does require installing google maps software, but the mrs. and I have found it very useful in planning trips and mattress runs.

The legend even notes which SPG properties are non-participating (no points earned), which can be useful to know in advance...

I saw that, but thought perhaps Tremblant and Laval were actually in/near Quebec City. I'm totally unfamiliar with that region.

So follow up question - how is the Sheraton 4P located for Winter Carnival? :D

There are two Four Points in the Quebec city area. None of them are close to the Old City.. You'll need to rent a car or use taxis to move from those hotels to the Carnival activities. The Four Points by Sheraton Quebec is the closest but it's still about 6 miles/10 kilometers from the town center. The Four Points by Sheraton Levis Convention center is located on the South shore of St.Lawrence river and is about a 30 minutes drive from the center. All hotels are booked solid during the Carnival and charge accordingly.

If you really want to stay close to the action, then choose another hotel. Of course, the Chateau Frontenac is famous but there are many smaller hotels with a lot of charm and less expensive. If you want to stick to chain hotel, there is a Hilton beside the Parliament, a nice Courtyard close by and a Loew's close to the Battlefields Park.

Sometimes location trumps a free or point-earning Starwood stay. I stayed at the Hilton in February 2008 for Carnaval and loved the location. Wherever you decide to stay, book early!

I have stayed at the Sheraton Four Points Quebec. A nice hotel but about a 20 minute drive from downtown, and parking in Quebec City is a pain in the "derriere."

The hotel is on a golf course, but pretty much in the middle of no-where.

I would splurge and stay at the Frontenac if I were you.

I checked on our interactive hotel maps (http://hotelmagician.com/interactive_hotel_maps/) and remember why I stayed at the Hilton and then wished I'd stayed at the Frontenac. The Starwoods are just too far outside where you want to be.
