I am going to be in SFO for 3 to 5 days next week. Any advice on which *wood hotel to use while there?
My event is at the "Seaport Center" south of SFO airport, in Redwood City. I was originally interested in the W Silicon Valley, which appears to be close to the Seaport Center, but I am scared off by the location (in the middle of a marsh ).
My budget would allow the W Silicon Valley, the Sheraton Palo Alto (closer to the Seaport Center) the Sheraton Sunnyvale (how bad is the 101 North in the morning?) any of the SFO airport properties, or even the Sheraton Fisherman's Wharf.
This is not my first trip to SFO, so I don't need to do the normal tourist stuff, but I will have a free Sunday evening, as well as each night from 5PM on, and I would prefer not to spend it alone in my room with the company of egrets. That said, I would prefer a nice room and a "hip" property, otherwise I would just stay at a Holiday Inn.
Thoughts?

San Francisco Area Starwood Hotels (General Discussion) (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=701706)
From the The SPG Forum FAQ & Hotel Master Thread Links thread. It's always best to FIRST check that thread for information.
There is also information on the other two properties you mention.
Hope that helps, good luck.

No worries, and I'm confident this will be merged.
I suggest you subscribe to the "The SPG Forum FAQ & Hotel Master Thread Links" this way you'll have easy access to it.

/mod hat on.
For a moment, I thought that livitup had asked a general question, and briefly merged the thread into the master thread. But then I realized s/he has carefully posted a lot of specific information about where s/he is going to be working, as well as hinting at price constraints. Several of the hotels of potential interest are not covered in the San Francisco thread. They are not city hotels, but rather are in the surrounding areas. Thus, I put this back in its own thread.
Droning on a bit, philosophically AZ Travels the World and I want folks to always to be free to ask for information specific to them. And I think in this case, that's best done as a standalone thread. /mod hat off
Here are a couple 2008 threads that ask about properties of interest to you:

Hi everyone,
I am going to be in SFO for 3 to 5 days next week. Any advice on which *wood hotel to use while there?

Assuming (from the traffic question) that you have a car, the W Silicon Valley was very nice, and upgrades for golds were not a problem. Fri/Sat stays available right now from $79/night and when I checked a few days ago weekdays were available from $119.
What "You Choose" promo are you registered for? If you chose a bonus based on stays, consider hotel hopping as you apparently have a car based on your traffic question. Sheraton Pleasanton has many nights loaded for the first week of November at $71, and the Four Points from $75, or vice-versa. Sometimes you have to look at each night individually to find the best rate- searching for all 5 nights at once yielded a much higher rate. If you have chosen one based on nights, the hotel hopping would be a pain for no gain.
But you would be adding a longer drive to use the Pleasanton deals, but if you used just one of them at the end of your stay, it would be a cheap night. As a plus, the reataurant at Sheraton Pleasanton is surprisingly good- not awesome, but I have enjoyed every meal there.
As a last piece of advise, I note that I have been checking SFO hotels diligently the last week, and have seen daily rate changes in the afternoon on all but the downtown hotels, as well as C&P avaialbilty appear and disappear, so run your search often, and whenever possible, spring the extra five bucks for a rate you can cancel, rather than prepaid, as you might find a better deal for your needs the day before your scheduled arrival at hotel x, and if you are prepaid, you're locked in.
