I was sort of shocked. I rolled into Sheraton Park South in Richmond last week. The pool was closed. Scaffolding was EVERYWHERE. I did not remember anything on their website about a pool closing. I just checked this morning, lo and behold, nothing noted on the site.

Do SPG properties list construction and OOS announcements?
One often finds them in the 'Special Conditions' hyperlink from the property page on a listing, although these are too often given to reminding Americans about passports for visits to Mexico and Canada.

Some hotels are proactive in alerting guests and they update their sites, via starwood, to reflect that information. In addition, if they have an external site, they do update information there as well.
I say call customer service and calmly explain the situation and ask them to intervene on your behalf.
If you had planned to use the pool, and chose this property, based on that amenity, that's a huge issue.
I honestly don't think you should ask for compensation, but if its offered, then I would take it.

As Cheap Elite and 3Cforme have said you need to check the Special Conditions link on the home page for that hotel. It it were me I would ask for compensation if you were expecting to use the pool or so forth. To me it's false advertisement if they don't tell you that the property is being renovated or if there are any other special circumstances going on, as the way I look at I'm paying for my stay there and I expect that the property to be up to snuff. Now if they posted it in the link then it's on me and I wouldn't expect any compensation because I knew or should've known there was construction going on at the hotel.
