Asia - Bali bombers' Indo execution in a week - Will CGK be any riskier that week?

Sorry if this sounds a little over the top. I am just pre-emptively wondering whether security may be increased in places accessed by westerners around the time the Bali bombers are executed.

It's not worrying me too much but given bombings in Jakarta previously, I'm slightly unsettled that CGK may be a target, as airports are relatively accessible and have been targeted by small terror cells in recent years.

Thanks if you have any understanding of policing of tourist/western targets and CGK.

No links yet but at a news conference just now, the date was given as 'first week of November'. [Google news link] (http://news.google.com.au/news?rlz=1C1CHMI_en-USAU295&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8&hl=en&resnum=1&ncl=1260510175)

I share your concern. It's not paranoia, just a reality check. I'm planning on vising Bali during the first or second week of November.

We are just back from Indonesia, and that trip we put forward when our agent suggested the possible outcome of the AG review. The feeling amongst expats is not to worry, but we did notice that many/most were planning business trips or a quick trip home next week. Personally I never tempt fate, there's always another time I can go, and the dollar/peso may increase from 6200idr back somewhere close to the 8500 we are used to. Noticed that the hotels we stayed in (Hyatt) were increasing their security by installing extra boom gates and that even the clubrooms had an additional baggage check. I put off Bangkok for a month because of their commotion, but I have booked it today in mid November. regards bkkrop

Well stated. I just decided to defer my travels to Bali. It's just not worth the stress and anxiety.

The executions should have no impact at all on security in Malaysia or Singapore.

I was there when the Bali 2 happened, about 1/2 a mile from Raja's restaurant. It's just bad luck if you happen to be in the wrong place at the wrong time, but the odds of it impacting you are astronomically low.

There are no end of soft targets in Indonesia, so it would be simple enough for JI or related nutjobs to conduct another Bali 2 style attack almost anywhere.

Bali is a bit protected geographically -- it is harder for the bad guys to get themselves and their devices there, but it has by far the largest number of westerners and they are easily accessible with very light to no security at hundreds of little restaurants and cafes.

Jakarta is easier for them to get to, but the targets are much more fortified and the westerners more spread out. It would be tougher to get a packed room of bules.

If they have something ready to go, they will be opportunists and select an easy target, then justify whatever they wind up attacking.

I think that there is a decent chance that they will attack a state institution associated with the executions (police, supreme court, etc...) rather than Westerners if something happens.

I will be back in Jakarta in a week and a half and have no qualms about the security situation. If something gets me over there it will be a wrecked bandit cab on the way home from Bugils or something like that, not ABB.
