You miss HP??? This is still your company in US' colors. There is NO ONE in senior managment left from OLD US. It's your company that took the US name.

I agree...5 years ago, HP was smaller and had more a "team spirit" IMHO. Doug Parker was a very popular person back then too.

I still get the same amount of miles. Learn to credit the miles somewhere they actually count! ;)

Perhaps if the merger had been better planned and labor issues had been worked out in advance or earlier in the process, there would be more of a team spirit now, instead of the HP vs. US mentality that still exists, both inside and outside the company.

And I came from US, which I loved pre-merger.

From where I stand, both carriers were OK apart, but have suffered greatly from the merging of two completely different companies with distinct cultures and customers.

......and not adopting the "best practices" from each.

I miss the old HP as well. What we have now is nothing like HP was.

I miss a lot of things about my own 'good ol' days,' but we simply have to move on. Those days are not coming back. (Though it can still be fun to occasionally look back and remember what once was, and what might have been. . . :))

Two main mistakes IMHO.
Should have change the name to something new, so everyone from customers to employees would realize that.
Should have offer very attractive buyouts to people with 20+ years so they could have moved on.

I like the idea, but for the pilots it would have been impractical - at the time of the merger nearly every active East pilot had at least 20 years.

Yeah, HP was a pretty good airline overall - at least the people were at alot more friendly. I wonder if sometimes, Doug Parker just eases back in his chair and thinks about spinning off (or just dumping) much of the old US structure and re-inventing the company as a WN with international routes.

It all comes back to how you view things.

Yeah, USAIR was a good airline with a large number of friendly people. They were trying and sometimes winning in competing with the majors. Customers and their issues always came first (even in PHL). It seemed that they cared more for their customers and were not trying to be a LCC, at all costs.

But, maybe I am remembering things with an fondness they do not deserve.

I can not say wheather it was the fault of the US or HP side that got US where it is today. But, I do know that management from boths sizes holds most of the blame.

Years ago I remember posting here that the things they were doing to the FF program was diminishing it value. I also remember many telling me I was incorrect, and look at were we have ended up. I do think that what has happened to the FF program lies at the feet of the former West management team.

Jim from a Customer perspective I am really talking about FA's and Gate agents. They (Bad ones) are the ones that drive poor experiences and complaints.

I understand what you're saying. Just interpreted your post wrong.

That's not true at all. HP was buying into a global brand. US already had a 20-year pedigree of flying internationally, particularly to Europe - HP did not. The brand loyalty US had developed internationally was a big plus. It was a good business decision at the time to keep the US name.

Yeah you are right Warbo. From a branding aspect, it only made sense to keep the US Airways moniker due to the reasons you stated. ^

I miss the massive 'late night' flight options from Las Vegas. Landing at a deserted major American airport, or minor for that matter, circa 3:00AM was always a trip. But it did allow for a bit of rest and a full business day.

The moral is low and feel sorry for the FA who have to peddle coffee and juices for $2 a pop. They didn't ask for this C---. By the way anybody notice that fuel cost are presently back to 2005 levels---any give backs --don't think so. Now fly SWA to PHX and LAS.

I miss HP terribly as well. :( Pre-merger, the customer service from the res. agents to the gate agents to the FA's was stellar. Now we seem to get the crappy and cranky staff that US was known for.

Separately, I flew home this morning BOS - PHX, and the FA was telling me that they plan on removing PHX as a base, and to cut many of the flights that US services alongside of WN, as US can't compete with WN in many markets out of PHX.

And the hits keep coming...

I too miss the old HP. I still remember where I wqsa when the merger was anniounced. I was sitting in FC on a BOS-PHX flight. When the FA announced it, there was a huge groan from the pax in FC. Everyone new what was coming.

HP was a small lest I dare say "family" airline. It had survived a bankruptcy, was making money at the time, was low cost, and had great people working for them. Seems that an airline that makes money always has happy employees.

I switched to HP years back because I got fed up with the (blank) attitude of the UA employees. Couldnt blame them as they were constantly getting screwed by UA. Had enough when a gate agent told me (a UA PE flying on a Y ticket) that a pilot in FC needed the seat more than me since he was "tired". HP served me well early on and I was more than pleased with the service, schedules, and staff.

Roll the clock forward a few years and the HP/US merger is a disaster. The closing down of LAS as a hub was the one fo the final nails in the coffin for me (that, and some IFE issues I raised on another thread). I used to love the late night flights from back east to LAX or SAN. I could work till 6, catch the 8PM flight to LAS and connect to the west coast (1AM arrival). Always liked sleeping in my own bed vice hotel albeit for a few less hours. Those connecting (definitely gone) and some of the late night >8PM departures from the East Coast flights were recently discontinued (i think).

Moved on to CO as a Plat Elite. Not looking back. Sad...

Are you people masochists? US turning in to HP is what made me run screaming for the next carrier that would have me. Maybe they were different before the merger but what I saw in the waning days blew my mind.
