Does anyone know if you get charged a fee for using your credit card (Visa or Mastercard) at Grand Cayman? I have heard about credit card fees for traveling overseass but have not found any concrete information; any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!

My most recent visit was in May. I charged hotel and meals at differnt restaurants without incurring any extra fee on my Cdn bank CAD credit card.

My most recent trip was in August, and as most places on the island give you the option of being charged in either USD and CI dollars, I did not have any conversion fees.

Unless you use a Citibank card. Even if the transaction is in dollars, CB will charge a "foreign exchange transaction fee" if you use their card outside of the United States. That's why I picked up the Capitol One card...

The vast majority of prices in Cayman are in CI Dollars, but all credit card transactions are run through the machines in US Dollars (they do not give you an option). Whilst the official CI to US exchange rate is 1 US - 0.82 CI, the retailers convert at .80, meaning you effectively pay 2.5% ish on every transaction....
