BA and Virgin are decreasing their fuel surcharges... slightly.

A crack in the monolith... will others follow?

As this is not Delta-specific, I am moving this over to the FT Newsstand.

AC has already reduced theirs as well in some markets (or cut checked bag fees or something like that) and WestJet removed it entirely.

The other thing to remember is that many carriers hedged towards the top of the pricing spike, so they need to wait a bit before they'll actually realize the benefits of the recent drop in prices.

AC hasn't yet reduced it's fuel surcharge. They've just decided not to display it seperately in the taxes and surcharges part of the ticket. Instead, it's now included in the base fare for transborder and domestic flights (those fares went up immediately when they decided to include the fuel surcahrge in the base fares), but still shown seperately for international and Aeroplan reward tix.

Read somewhere recently that Thai Airways also dropped their fuel surcharge by a small amount. Didn't Qantas also announce a small drop in their domestic fuel surcharge?
