Hi Folks

I'm organising a suprise trip to Bermuda for my partners' 40th in March 09. We will only stay a long weekend ( 3 nights ) and it will be our first ever trip to Bermuda. I'd be really grateful for any one's advise on Cambridge Beach resort and the cottage suites. It looks like to best accomodation of its kind on the island, but am I right? Ideally, I want the privacy of our own suite, with ocean views if possible and the standard of accomodation is really important to me.
May I ask if any of you have stayed at The Cambridge Beach cottage suites and which is closest to the beach, in addition to being really private?
For those of you who haven't stayed at Cambridge Beach, any other recommendations? We don't need to be near other restaurants etc. as we plan on doing nothing but relax, so again, the accomodation is important. I love Mandarin Oriental as a brand, but have read mixed reviews about Elbow beach for example. Really grateful for all advise.

Sorry to the late reply. Yes, many consider Cambridge Beaches to be one of the best properties on island. I don't think they permit children which adds to the tranquility. It is very far from the airport - the farthest hotel/resort/cottage colony. Therefore taxi will be on the hi-end relative to other locations and the time to airport/from airport will be long -- essentialy one end of the island to the other. I have not been there - to dine or stay or visit or tour.

The Reefs is equally nice. Recently updated - shutdown to re-do almost everything - it is a 5-star resort I think with all the amenities. They are still building some of the fractional ownership units, and you can likely find updates on that via google. The hotel has a blog too you might find of interest.

Horizons & Cottages is stellar. If you want true Bermudian guest property a cottage colony place is ideal and this property is superb. They used to be Relais and Chateux - only one on the island, but Waterloo House used to be too. But it was dropped year ago and not sure why. They are not on the beach but you have privileges to use the beach and amenities of Coral Beach and Tennis Club -- a private members only club. Cottages - if you choose well, can be very private here as well.

Elbow Beach -- if you can get a cottage on their property it is very nice to have a cottage in the grounds yet the amenities of a resort hotel. We have stayed at Rose Cottage -- especially nice as it is so secluded. Being able to walk to the beach is the best part - Elbow Beach is also one of the nicest on the island and connects right over to Coral Beach.

Additionally, I would also recommend a rental house or property on island. Bermuda Realty is popular and they have many listings for gorgeous homes in Tucker's Town -- and even one next to the Fairmont Southampton for easy access to the restaurants and hotel amenities. Not to mention very close to the best beach in Bermuda and the world -- Horseshoe Bay Beach. In Tuckers Town you can be near the Mid Ocean Club for food, dining, and golf and tennis and be convenient each. Tuckers Point Club is also in that area. I think some of their listings have a dedicated housekeeper - for that hotel touch and are steps from the beach and of course have ocean views. Bermuda Realty can even arrange for a chef to make your meals or groceries to be fully stocked for arrival.

Anyways, hope that helps.

Good luck. Let us know how is progresses.
