Well, it just seemed a little odd your first post here is to advertise a product sold by a company in your state AND your occupation is listed as sales..... Most people post questions and/or introduce themselves before extolling the virtues of a little known product.

My apologies if I'm incorrect..

On November 1, this "contest" will be illegal in Texas:

"Texas state legislation signed by Governor Rick Perry on June 15, 2001, to be effective on November 1, 2001, will significantly influence sweepstakes in Texas, and may make in-pack promotions a thing of the past in the lone star state. The Texas legislation was developed to prohibit deceptive sweepstakes practices, but it encompasses a broader range of marketing promotions by prohibiting sweepstakes entry forms that have any connection with buying or ordering a product. Violators could be subject to civil penalties of up to $50,000 per violation."

Edited to remove the quote.

It is illegal to run a sweepstakes such as this one and require entrants to purchase something in order to enter. There must be an alternate method of entry that does not require a purchase.

I briefly checked around the site and could not find the details of this sweepstakes that provided such information, but there must be a way to enter without purchasing the product.

Gee -- the distance from the address of the company in Plano, TX to the center of Lewisville, TX where pweiss is from is a whopping 17 miles. What a coincidence!

Well, I'm a late comer to this thread, but I will say that 17 miles doesn't mean anything in the sprawling DFW area. It could take 30 minutes to 1 hour to drive.

At your request, I'm more than happy to close the thread for you. That should end the speculation about this site and its motives.

Admittedly I haven't looked over it or investigated myself. I'm closing it on request of the original poster.

However, I'd like to take the opportunity to share a few observations about the do's and don'ts of posting etiquette here. This is for the benefit of the original poster (stick around - we're really a friendly bunch - andn the ropes aren't actually that hard to pick up on) and for the benefit of the members of the community looking on.

There is a new forum for Free Travel Contests and Sweepstakes (http://www.flyertalk.com/travel/fttravel_forumcgi/forumdisplay.cgi?action=topics&forum=Free+Travel+Contests+and+Sweepstakes&number=58&DaysPrune=5&LastLogin=). Its description is A forum for news of free travel contests and sweepstakes that give away free travel for registration. Major mileage giveaways (Win 1,000,000 miles) may also be posted if no purchase is required. (Some cross-posting is allowed to travel program forums in FT Miles but not to OMNI) Good luck. (Emphasis mine)

Giveaways of Delta miles can certainly be mentioned in the Delta forum (http://www.flyertalk.com/forumcgi/forumdisplay.cgi?action=topics&forum=Delta&number=21&DaysPrune=5&LastLogin=).

This forum, MilesBuzz, is for Discussion of the latest frequent flyer program buzz...Contests usually don't quite fit here.

Also, commercial posting/advertising is verboten (http://www.flyertalk.com/rules.shtml) Posts containing promotional messages for commercial or charitable products or services -- included but not limited to Internet sites, business advertisements and solicitations to donate miles or points -- will be removed.

The above are just some reminders from one of your friendly neighborhood moderators.

And again, welcome to Flyertalk, pweiss.

While I'm quoting 'rules and procedures' let me also make an offer. Being a lurker or new poster can seem daunting, but we've all been in that position at one time or another. One of are rules is also 'be welcoming to new members' -- so you can always feel free to drop me an email for advice if you're feeling a little gunshy about posting. I'm happy to both encourage you and guide you in the right direction.

This really is a great community!

Gary
