Asiana Club - Experience with OZ Y on 777 & 747 ex LAX ?

Hi folks !
I'm currently planning a nice little MR between LAX and some Asian destinations. The price is very good considering I earn 100% miles on LH M&M for these flights.
Now, what are your experiences with the OZ Economy Class ?
Talking about seat pitch etc. I guess one should favour the 777 as they have 2 seats on the side in opposite to the Mass Transport monster 747
Special remarks about the handling at LAX ? I guess they use the *A lounge which is fine. Upgrade hints? ;)
Thanks in advance :)

The 777 is configured in a 3-3-3 configuration with Asiana. The new economy class btw (meaning 747) is much nicer if the IFE doesn't crash midflight.

Thats great to hear ! Thanks !
I was a bit guided by the picture with the 2-seat row in Y here (http://us.flyasiana.com/Global/US/en/homepage?fid=INFO13130).

That picture's an A330 cabin, which is configured in 2-4-2. The overhead bins are a dead giveaway. Seat pitch is 34" on all planes (except domestic-felt like 32") which is great.
Glad I can help :)

Sounds acceptable, pretty painless compared to previous MR's :D
Also the food looks very encouraging to me... in opposite to UA where (for good reason) is no image of the food to be found on the website :p
And after all IIRC there is free booze on Transpac routes. Not that it means alot to me but it eases the pain and helps to sleep ;)

777 Y seats are quite nice, think UA E+ in terms of the seat pitch (35-36" vs 34") and you'll be close to the mark, but OZ Y seats have better ergonomics and are much cleaner compared to UA Y. They used to give a small amenity kit for all Y pax for both inbound (ICN-xxx) & outbound (xxx-ICN) transpac flights but now it seems that it's only for inbound, i.e. leaving ICN. Have no experience with 747 Y though.
IFE is pretty good if you don't mind Chinese subtitles. I think all 777 and 747 flights have AVOD in all classes but I am not really sure about that. If you have your own headsets, you might want to purchase a two-pronged airline adapter prior to the trip, something like this (http://www.amazon.com/Ear-Hugger-EHA-18-Airline-Headphone/dp/B00006JPHM). If not, they will provide you with a cheap one which is not too bad.
stupidhead is right on the 3-3-3 configuration for 777 Y, which can be a blessing if the load is light and you get an empty middle seat or better yet, a whole row of 3 seats by yourself, but otherwise... BTW, I would not count on a light load with all those US-asia sales going on.
As for upgrades, hope you're friendly with the Big Guy above the highest clouds. :D :-: :D Jokes aside, as a *G, there is a non-trivial chance of getting an op-up if Y is full. I, as a lowly Asiana Gold (*S), have managed to score an op-up on a recent ICN-SEA flight, and officially a *G, even if from another airline, is supposed to have a higher priority than an OZ *S for op-up situations among all things. But I would not have a high hope, since Los Angeles has arguably the largest ethnic Korean population in the US, which I guess translates into a large number of elite flyers on either KE or OZ.
In-flight foods have always been a strong point of OZ. If you like Korean foods or even have a passing interest for it, definitely ask for one when prompted as they always give you a choice between a Korean and a western menu. You'll not regret it.

If not, you can always ask for ramen....

This all sounds AMAZING !
Even without the MR purpose I look very forward to this experience.
Now I have to decide, the trip to SIN is a little bit more money but about 7K more EQM and also I would prefer SIN as some FTer live there that it would be great to meet up with. Hotels etc should be cheaper as well and the times plus distance to the city is more in my favor.
OZ should be able to exchange FF numbers at the gate right ? Because then I leave my *G number in to wait until last minute for a possible "seat enhancement" and then change to my desired programm in which I just have *S status right now :o

What' the point of upgrading (unless it's complimentary) on a mileage run? The upgrade basically negates all the mileage earned, even though Asiana does calculate your elite status qualification based on mileage EARNED, not net mileage balance.

I create enough bonus miles with LH for next to nothing.
I just need to secure the status.
Complimentary was what I was looking for. Thats why I'm so amazed about their Economy product.
