Newsstand - Would You Fly Aeroshchit?View Full Version : Would You Fly Aeroshchit? LeSabre74 Oct 15, 08, 4:28 pm Maybe I'm just pronouncing it wrong, but it sounds like a crappy airline. :p http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/7671189.stm skywalkerLAX Oct 15, 08, 6:39 pm So what... might be the "Ted" of Aeroflot :D :p Bobster Oct 15, 08, 6:44 pm It has to be an error. A Google search shows that the airline name only appears in the one news story, this thread in FlyerTalk, and a thread in another forum, and both forum threads are quoting the one news story. Since the airline apparently didn't exist before today, it probably means that some poor copy editor and/or a reporter will be looking for new jobs. mbstone Oct 15, 08, 7:17 pm I thought all the airlines I fly on are called Aeroshchit. Or is that just what we call 'em. Honey, I'm going to the airport now, I've got to take the Aeroshchit to Schenectady. krobbins Oct 15, 08, 7:21 pm It might be a typo, but maybe not. In the Cyrillic alphabet there is a single letter that makes the shch sound so it's not as far fetched as it might seem. Anyway, I'd never fly them, but would simply love to have a picture next to an aircraft with that name on the side. Can you say Xmas card? mbstone Oct 15, 08, 7:39 pm http://www.simlivery.com/img/Aerosvit733.jpg Palal Oct 15, 08, 9:14 pm http://www.simlivery.com/img/Aerosvit733.jpg The picture is of Aerosvit (IATA:VV - the Ukrainian airline). The airline in question is Аэрощит-translated as airshield. icurhere2 Oct 15, 08, 10:03 pm Why is no one pouncing on the airline being suspended for a 10,000 ruble debt? That's $380 U.S. for those who are curious . . . LeSabre74 Oct 15, 08, 10:35 pm Why is no one pouncing on the airline being suspended for a 10,000 ruble debt? That's $380 U.S. for those who are curious . . . As they say in Russia, that ain't shchit. :D JerseyVics Oct 15, 08, 11:05 pm The picture is of Aerosvit (IATA:VV - the Ukrainian airline). My mom and sis flew AeroSvit JFK-KBP few months ago... they actually used the same term as the OP quoted to describe it. --Russ icurhere2 Oct 15, 08, 11:31 pm As they say in Russia, that ain't shchit. :D If they can't afford to pay a $380 fine, I don't think they can afford some of the items I prefer my airline be able to procure (like fuel). The only "aero" to go with that would be in the fuel tanks. barclay174 Oct 16, 08, 5:18 am It's not just one news story - the Moscow Times has got it today, & they're usually fairly reliable: http://www.themoscowtimes.com/article/600/42/371708.htm Also checking it out with a Russian-speaker with a cyrillic keyboard.
