American Express Membership Rewards - Foreign "Special" platinum, will they give me lounge access?

Hey guys,

I just got my Platinum Card Aeroméxico-AMEX which is a branded PLAT which instead of MR gives you Miles.

Anyways, PLAT cards here in Mexico are also part of the Lounge access as the US-issued cards (NW,DL,AA lounge access when traveling on their metal). I called AMEX in order to know if I'd get access to AA AC when I travel with them on my next trip to the US and they told me "Your card is the same as a Platinum Card, so you will have access"; however, I know CSRs make mistakes and I would like to know my chances of actually getting access.

The main cardholder receives PP, but this is an additional. I have access to FHR and the PLAT travel services so it works as a PLAT in every way. The card says PLATINUM exactly above the AMEX logo but it's branded with Aeromexico's Premier program on the front.

Will they let me in? AMEX has told me that there would be no problem, but the lounge dragons may differ. What do you think? If they refuse access how do you think I should proceed at the moment?

Thanks guys!

I don't know the exact answer to your question, since I'm not familiar with Mexican Amex.

However, as a general 'rule of thumb': if there is a small blue square with Amex on it, that's an Amex-branded CC (as most miles earning cards are), and lounge dragons tend not to let you in. I say this, since I was once issued a temp plat card, but with the blue logo on it, and for some reason, it didn't swipe up as an Amex plat, and I was only let in after some pleading.

The lounge attendants have a little cheat sheet with pictures of all the valid cards; it sounds like yours should be on it. If they give you a hassle, be prepared to call AmEx customer service from your cell phone and then hand the phone over to the lounge attendant.

I'm interested and curious about advantages of Amex Plat * Amex AM Plat, both cost 450 usd/year.

Back to your question, AMEX PLAT BRZ have no idea and claim access to AA lounges is not authorized, however real evidence supports that swipping the above card works at AA lounges...

So, I would say that AMEX PLAT MEX should also have been set the same way either for the regular PLAT and the AM Plat as both have the same cost, you should be fine.

PS - By the way, in MEX AM lounges are way, far better than AC lounges; Don't even bother ;)
