A lot of people report being ripped off by car rental companies in Chile, where as it happens, I am headed for Thanksgiving. The scams I have seen, all seem to center around people who elect not to pay for Collission Damage Waiver insurance.

Either they have extra charges on their card when they get home, or they are forced to sign a special agreement before gettign the car, allowing the rental car to charge up to [some high amount] for damages. They are then charged pursuant to this "agreement".

Does anyone have experience with this and can offer advice beyond "just pay for CDW, it's only $10 a day"? (Right now I'm leaning towards paying it, becuase of the hassle I'm hearing about, but it's supposed to be one of the nice features of the card when traveling abroad.)
