Many of you may recall Amex's recent triple MR point promotion for shopping through their online mall earlier this year. It ended June 30. I bought a $1,000 item through the mall but was credited with only the usual double points. I've contacted AMEX asking them what happened to the other 1,000 points and they acted as if they had no clue as to what I was talking about. I was told I needed to provide them with the promotion ID. Promotion ID? I've asked them what that is and why it's up to me to prove that they ran a promotion in the first place. Don't they keep track of their own promotions? GIve me a break. It can't be that hard. Check my cc account for the item in question and date bought.
They still haven't answered my last email.
So has anyone had to prove to AMEX that they ran a promotion that was plastered all over their website just a few months ago?

don't know about your promo, but bear in mind that these days, anything's likely w/AMEX:

* stock price keeps tanking, earnings down the toilet.

* endless financial reviews to their customers, all in the name of verifying customer viability, but in fact, pissing off the customer base by the way it's handled.

* WAY overextended in the credit operations, leading to the above items.

Kind of a death spiral, although it's unlikely AMEX will go down the drain, it just seems like they're running the biz that way.

Put all of this in place, I'd be surprised if anyone gets bonus anything through AMEX. Could be CSRs are told to 'refuse first, dispute second' on most types of callins.

Unfortunately, your finding out the hard way about how best to deal with AMEX on deals - save a hardcopy of the web deal, follow up right away, before anyone has time to 'forget', etc, etc, etc.

Lot of time & crap to deal with just to get some bonus points...

when i signed up for my plat card there was a offer of "Spend $1,000 in first 3 months and get bonus 25,000 points" but it didnt automatically register on my acct so when i called customer service, the lady had NO idea what i was talking about, had never heard of that promo. they asked for the promo code as well but i didnt have one.....so i had to direct her to the webpage with the promo on it and she waslike ok.

but ofc she didnt add the points it turned out she didnt do jack sh*t, i called several weeks later, same thing, then again the other day (for a total of 3 diff customer service people before one of them actually added the points)

The points finally showed up yesterday about 4 months AFTER they should have.
