2008 Baccarat Play Enlivens Bleak August

Despite having one more weekend day than last year, August 2008 saw an 8% decline in casino revenue, following a relatively weak August 2007. Baccarat was the bright spot, with table drop increasing 47% and win up 4%. Slot handle and holds were down, leading to a 15% revenue decline. Table games held their ground, with win up 2%. The Reno, South Lake Tahoe and Elko markets were al either flat or slightly up. The Strip lost less ground (-7%) than any other market segment, with Boulder Strip taking the worst hit (-22%).

Actually,

Not entirely surprised by the increase in drop in August, due to
8.8.8 :D:D

But, alas, my limited Baccarat play for 8.8.8 weekend was @ the solitary RIO $100 big baccarat table. And, yes, all three of my sessions were winners! Though, unfortunately, I could never get past 4 in a row, which was disappointing, as that's when I finally get to a bet that starts to really mean something. ;)

You clearly helped the drop, though. :)

Good call on 8.8.08. Also, visa restrictions to Macau are helping Las Vegas.

Where can one play baccarat that isn't ruined by annoying rules? It seems that every casino's baccarat table has little nitpicky rules that ruin the odds for the player...

:confused: almost every baccarat game in Vegas is based on the same set of rules. The house edge is also the same everywhere: 1.06% on the banker bet, 1.24% on the player bet, and 14.36% on the tie bet.

The only variations involve a possible dragon bonus, reduced commission (4% instead of 5%), a 9 to 1 Tie Bet, or a no commission version of the game (which includes a consistent modification of the rules). [and, other than the dragon bonus, the other options are very rare...]

If one sets aside the prospect of betting tie or dragon bonus (which are really just additional proposition bets), I'm not really certain what "nitpicky rules that ruin the odds" are currently out there.

People look at me like I'm crazy when I say I've been to Las Vegas 10 times this year and I don't feel like I'm out there enough.
