American Express Membership Rewards - When will I be charged for my AMEX Platinum?

I had the Gold and was charged $125 in the beginning of Sept. I called to cancel and the agent offered me 25K to upgrade. He also mentioned that since I was just charged the annual fee I would be charged again only next Sep. I found this strange as I am using the benefits for a year without being charged.

Is this true?

when i got my plat card i got charged the $450 fee on my first or 2nd bill...(i forget which one exactly)

You get charged once your statement is closed and will show up on your next bill.

I upgraded from Gold to Platinum and AMEX credited the difference for the remaining time for the Gold Card and prorated down to the penny for the Platinum. Credits and charges made at the end of the 1st billing cycle.

hehe i thought mine would be billed end of year...(first amex) scared me when i logged in and saw a balance that was like 2x what it should be hehe

I was charged the annual fee on the very first statement. In fact, it was the very first charge listed on the statement. Amex ensures that they get theirs fast! ;)

Has there ever been an offer for first year annual fee being waived for Platinum?

^I've never heard of them waiving the Plat annual fee. If you are really lucky and a high spender you MAY get 50K MR to upgrade from a lower card though.
