Instant flight upgrades now available at Abu Dhabi International Airport

You can now redeem your Etihad Guest Miles for a flight upgrade just before you fly. With the introduction of Instant Upgrades, if you decide you want to upgrade to a higher class, have the required amount of miles and there’s a seat available – it’s yours! No more planning 48 hours in advance.

Just check in as normal and ask the check in agent for more information about your Instant Upgrade.

This offer is currently valid only on flights from Abu Dhabi International Airport. Allocation subject to seat availability and valid on any one sector only.

Very useful new benefit announced on www.etihadairways.com guest page. I'm hoping it means availability of any seat at the time of check-in, not just I class. I read this as saying the usual conditions will apply though (Upgrade available from Coral Y B H K M Q ticket classes only) :(

Looks like the economy classes eligible for upgrade at the airport have been extended. Not sure if this includes the cheapest Promotion classes. Ts&Cs also indicate that upgrade arranged prior to travel does not need to be in specific classes.

9.5.4. Permitted RBD for upgrade : Coral Economy - Y, B, H, K, M, Q, L, V, U, E, T and Pearl Business - J, C, D, X, W
9.5.5. The following fare types will not qualify for upgrades – ID/AD tickets, travel industry reduced rates, free or non-revenue tickets, staff promotion tickets and any other fares that are declared by Etihad Airways to be ineligible for upgrades.
9.5.6. You will be permitted a one class upgrade only.
9.5.7. Only Etihad Guest Gold members are permitted upgrades from Pearl Business Class to Diamond First Class.

9.5.14. When using miles to upgrade at the airport, your entitlements will be as follows:
• Excess Baggage: If the upgrade is done at check-in, you will be entitled to the baggage allowance of the upgraded class. If the upgrade occurs post check-in, the allowance will be exerted as per the ticketed class.
• Lounge Access: If the upgrade is done at check-in, you will be entitled to lounge accesses per the upgraded class. Lounge access is subject to availability.
• Limo: As limos have to be booked 48 hours prior to the flight departure/arrival, we will not be able to offer you a limo when using your miles to upgrade at the airport.
